While fans have loved his portrayal, the ending that his character got inEndgamehas been a huge point of contention online. So much so that one user also pointed out that inCaptain America: Civil War, he kissed Peggy Carter’s (his love interest) niece.

Chris Evans’ Captain America deserved a better ending inAvengers: Endgame

For the MCU fans,Avengers: Endgamewas a mix of an emotional and action-packed farewell full of reunions, sacrifices, and goodbyes. But while many characters got satisfying endings, Captain America’s conclusion didn’t sit well with everyone. What was supposed to be a heartfelt send-off for the hero, instead created inconstancies and fell out of character.

The story of the movie also heavily relies on time travel to undo the damage caused by Thanos’ snap. When Steve Rogers volunteered to return the Infinity Stones to their proper places in time, fans expected him to come back as the duty-driven hero, they had always loved and admired. Instead, he chose to go back to the 1940s and live out his life with his love Peggy Carter.

They also pointed out how, inCaptain America: Civil War,he shared a passionate kiss with Peggy’s niece, Sharon Carter, adding even more confusion.

On the surface, it may look like a man finally getting his much-desired happy ending. But in reality, this decision to stay back in the past goes against everything Captain America stands for. Throughout the MCU, Steve Rogers is defined by his unwavering sense of duty and is a hero who fights for what’s right, no matter how difficult the battle is.

So, by staying in the past, he knowingly allowed terrible things and events to unfold. Rogers very well knew that Hydra would infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D. and that Bucky would be tortured and brainwashed.

Not only that he was also aware that Thanos would eventually threaten the entire universe, but even so he stepped aside and decided to live a quieter life in the background.
