The epic roster of Kohei Horikoshi’sMy Hero Academiafeatures some of the best-written superheroes who are currently giving their all to defeat the League of Villains. Among these superheroes, one of the most underrated ones from U.A. High is Fumikage Tokoyami, also known as Jet Black Hero: Tsukuyomi.

Tokoyami - My Hero Academia

Tokoyami’s quirk allows him to manifest a sentient shadow called Dark Shadow from his body that he can materialize and use to his advantage. The Dark Shadow is one of the strongest quirks in the series, as it can increase its strength with darkness and can even go toe-to-toe with some of the strongest villains inMy Hero Academia.

Although Tokoyami is a great character, manyMy Hero Academiafans believe that he has not received the importance and respect that he deserves. He has been ignored quite a few times, especially by his mentor Hawks, who trained him during the Hero Agency Internships and Hero Work Studies.

Hawks and Tokoyami’s Relationship inMy Hero Academia

Hawks has always been an inspiration for Tokoyami. When he first learned that Hawks chose him for the Hero Agency internship, he was excited to train with the No. 2 Hero. However, the beginning of their professional relationship had a rocky start. Hawks was accustomed to working on his own, which frustrated Tokoyami.

He was assigned the role of cleaning up after the job was done, which Tokoyami felt was a waste of his talents. However, Hawks also had other plans for the superhero in training. He wanted to know more about theLeague of Villains from Tokoyami, which, although an important aspect, did not help Tokoyami at all.

Thus, because of the frustration, Tokoyami left the internship without learning much. However, he once again returns for the Hero work studies, and the two repair their relationship. Tokoyami comes to respect Hawks and feels deeply involved with the No. 2 Hero. So much so that he even joins him in the battle against All for One.

Tokoyami Deserved A Little More Importance inMy Hero Academia

While Tokoyami develops a great relationship with Hawks, he is often ignored by the No. 2 hero for certain reasons. Sometimes it can be Hawks’ duty as the second-best superhero; sometimes it can be his obsession with Endeavor, as he considered Endeavor to be his idol. This led to fans believing thatTokoyami deserved better.

A thread on Reddit byu/Revive-Phoenix2that talked about the characters who deserved more spotlight had Tokoyami’s name on the top.

My Hero Academiafans believe that Tokoyami had a lot of potential that could have been used byKohei Horikoshi. It would have not only helped in the character development of Tokoyami but also enhanced the narrative.
