I think I was naive to the fact that it was going to run a long time. Like the contract we signed was six years and I was like we’ll do six…I didn’t know what I was doing and I didn’t know that that’s not like a thing that you should assume but Arrow was popular and it was a spin-off of that. And, no offense to the character of Arrow but we were about to make the Flash…it’s a little bit more well-known.

While Gustin was not wrong, as the show even lasted a season longer than its flagship series, he admitted that he knew it was going to get tougher as the seasons progressed to keep storylines interesting with the same concept.

I mean, I was 23 when I auditioned for that show and thought I had no chance of getting it. I didn’t even want to go to the audition. I was like, ‘This is a waste of my time and their time.’ In the breakdown, it said he was late twenties to early thirties.

The actor mentioned that he had imposter syndrome due to this requirement and never dreamed of getting to play a superhero. However, he did bag the part and played the speedster for nine seasons.
