Granblue Fantasy: Versus Rising, the new revamped version of the original Granblue Fantasy: Versus fighting game, has revealed a new playable character, Anila, and elaborated on the new “Dash Attack” and “New Triple Attack” mechanics. (via Gematsu)
Anila, Queen of the Sheep, is a versatile fighter who wields a pole-arm and uses divine sheep in battle. With a variety of projectiles, anti-air moves, and rush-down attacks, she has a formidable arsenal that Arc System Works hopes will be used effectively by players of all skill levels. The character will be voiced in English by Leona Renee and in Japanese by Aoi Yuuki (Lucy in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Futaba Sakura inPersona 5).

The team stresses that while the core experience will remain the same, the addition of new characters and mechanics will enhance movement options and strategies. For example, the new Dash mechanic will allow players to quickly close the gap and keep pressure on opponents using light, medium, and heavy attacks in different variations.
The quick light attack allows players to apply immediate pressure while advancing, while the medium attack (For Gran) is a low-hit poke that can surprise standing opponents. The heavy attack has the slowest startup and recovery, but can be used in a combo for significant damage. It has also been teased that some characters have dash attacks that can be combined into combos or used to catch opponents off guard while blocking.
Similar to the auto-combo system in Granblue Fantasy: Versus, players can perform triple attacks by pressing an attack button three times in a row. However, the third attack can now be changed to an overhead or low attack, depending on the player’s input. These attacks are useful for breaking a defensive opponent’s guard and maintaining pressure.
The team also revealed other features, including the Casual Match Mode and the Versus Rank Display update. In addition, an open beta tournament for GBVS: Rising is announced to take place at EVO 2023, with hints of more opportunities in the works for players to try out the game before the event.
Scheduled for release in 2023, Granblue Fantasy: Versus Rising will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. The game is set to include additional features such as ultimate skills, new stages, and a new online lobby island,as previously announced. A new trailer for the game will be released on March 4.
