A second major source has confirmed that the upcomingGod of Wartelevision series on Amazon Prime Video will remain true to the games' story. Inan interview with Deadlinelast week, Sony Pictures TV Studios President Katherine Pope reiteratedclaims made in Decemberby Amazon Studio’s Head of Television Vernon Sanders that the storylines would stay faithful to the games.
“I know the game pretty well, and I’m so impressed with what they’re already doing in terms of building out that world and expanding, keeping all the values of the game but also expanding it so that if you don’t know the game, it’s still going to be a really satisfying show on its own,” Pope explained.

That quote comes from a response from Pope to a question regarding her favoriteSonyvideo game IPs, including what games she would like to see make the transition to television. While she admitted God of War is still in its “early stages” as a television series, it was the one gaming IP that she singled out, so her passion for the current project is evident.
Bringing up the success ofHBO’s The Last of Usand its earlyseason two renewal, Pope spoke of the importance of expanding on current intellectual properties as well as the Sony Television’s close relationship with its compatriots at thePlayStationbrand. Noting that PlayStation has been growing in mainstream media importance, she said she believes that expanding current IPs will continue to be a part “of everyone’s business.”
But that doesn’t mean its easy to appease fans when converting a video game’s story for television audiences. “I think people somehow think it’s an easier job to develop IP, but, in many ways, it’s harder than coming up with an original idea because you have to know what is core, the most incredibly foundational pieces of the source material,” she explained. “And then you also have to know what isn’t going to work for an entertaining TV show, and you really have to allow it to become its own thing.”
WithSanta Monica Studio’sCory Barlog as an executive producer on the series, it is likely that keeping the story on track will be made significantly easier. The God of War television series has no projected release date, nor has any casting information leaked, but Amazon intends to stream it to a worldwide audience.
