PlayStation has begun removingGhost of Tsushima’s upcoming PC port from purchase in select countries. This comes after the publishing studio was forced to walk back a PSN account-linking requirement forHelldivers 2on PC.
Earlier this month,a new postfrom Sony Interactive Entertainment stated that it would be enforcing an account-linking requirement for Helldivers 2 on Steam. All current players would have until May 30th to link theirSteamand PSN accounts, while new players would have until May 6th to link their accounts. Anyone who refused to do so would be unable to access the game, even if they had already purchased it.

Arrowhead CEO Asks Helldivers 2 Fans If It Would Be “Tone Deaf” To Release Paid Warbond After Recent Controversy
Helldivers 2’s recent account-linking fiasco has come to an end, but Arrowhead’s CEO wants to know if a new Premium Warbond would be “tone deaf.”
This was eventually walked back by Sony after fansthreatened to never play the game againandreview-bombed it on Steam. In an announcement post, Sony said it would no longer be moving forward with the update and was “still learning what is best for PC players.”

Amidst all of the controversy, Sucker Punch Productions, the development company behind one of PlayStation’s most popular titles, Ghost of Tsushima, made its own announcement. When asked by a fan about the account-linking message seen on Ghost of Tsushima’s Steam Store page,Sucker Punch said, “A PSN account is only required for Legends online multiplayer mode and to use PlayStation overlay. It is not required to play the singleplayer game.”
While this should mean the account-linking process is optional, depending on whether or not you want to play the game’s multiplayer mode ‘Legends’, it appears as though Sony has now begun removing Ghost of Tsushima from Steam storefronts in countries where PSN is unavailable.

Ghost Of Tsushima Is Being Pulled From Steam In Some Countries
As reported bySteamDB, an unofficial website that tracks all of Steam’s backend data, such as new updates, price changes, player count, and more, Ghost of Tsushima has had purchase restrictions enabled for certain countries.
Albania, Afghanistan, Japan, the Philippines, and many, many more have all been blocked from purchasing Ghost of Tsushima on Steam. This is likely because PSN is unavailable in these countries, which would make the account-linking requirement for Legends an impossibility. This was also one of Helldivers 2’s main complaints when the restriction was announced.

SteamDB is also reporting that players in these countries who had already purchased Ghost of Tsushima are receiving automatic refunds. The message in the refund says, “The publisher of this game is now requiring a secondary account to play portions of this game - and this account cannot be created from your country.”
PlayStation has also attempted to make the notice message on Steam clearer. Previously, you would need to scroll past the purchase option to be warned of the PSN linking requirement, but the notice has been moved to the very top of the game’s Steam page now, as seen in the image below.
