With well-written characters that all have their own unique points of view, the world of Ghost of Tsushima is filled with branching and intersecting incentives. Since the goals of the Tsushima people aren’t always aligned, this list consists of characters with varying motivations. Some are noble, some are self-serving, and others are wavering in their loyalties - but all are memorable.
10Sadanobu Ishikawa
Sadanobu Ishikawa is an expert marksman, and he is samurai. Renowned for his skills with a bow, Sensei Ishikawa’s Dojo is a sacred place for all aspiring archers. One of the warriors that Jin calls upon for help against the Mongol invaders, Sensei Ishikawa is a reserved man that never indulges in pleasantries.
Once sought out by Jin to learn the Way of the Bow, Sensei Ishikawa rejected a younger Jin as his student in favor of another young archer named Tomoe. Burdened by unfinished business with Tomoe, Ishikawa’s tale centers around his student.

Ishikawa & Tomoe’s fates are bound together in Ghost of Tsushima. The archer prodigy Tomoe is a girl from no clan, merely a peasant who came to study with Sensei Ishikawa. After the Mongol invasion, Tomoe & Ishikawa are split up and when Jin comes to the dojo the two men search for Tomoe.
As Jin and Ishikawa track Tomoe, the three become entangled with the Mongols in the ongoing war for Tsushima. Throughout her story, Tomoe faces many hardships and has her strength and loyalty tested.

8Lord Shimura
Leader of samurai forces on the island of Tsushima, Lord Shimura is the uncle and mentor of the game’s main character - Jin Sakai. Throughout the game, you’ll be treated with several flashbacks that show Lord Shimura teaching Jin the way of the blade.
Lord Shimura not only taught Jin how to defend himself and his country, but he showed him a code for how to live. Lord Shimura is an honorable man that has many who rely upon him. When he is captured by the Mongols, it feels like a matter of personal and official duty to set him free.

The last warrior monk, Norio is a soft-spoken man that wants to protect his temple and his people. As Jin meets up with Norio, the Mongols have captured the monks from Norio’s home of Cedar Temple and Norio needs Jin’s help to rescue them.

A gentle man that is forced to fight as a last resort, Norio would rather raise a family and serve his temple. Norio has a friendly disposition that makes you want to hear his tale and help him fulfill his destiny.
6Masako Adachi
Lady Masako lived a challenging life even before the Mongols came to Tsushima. A member of Clan Adachi, Lady Masako was forced to endure a massacre of her clan by Japanese hands. Upon meeting up with Jin after the invasion, Lady Masako has recently buried her family and is on the hunt to uncover her betrayer.
Riddled with anger and unaware of who has slaughtered her clan, Lady Masako spends no time being a grieving widow. Instead, she dedicates her days to restoring honor to her clan and claiming her revenge.

Leader of the Straw Hats and childhood friend of Jin Sakai, Ryuzo is a warrior, but he is not of any clan nor is he a samurai. Attempting to provide for his men by scavenging food, this ronin has grown desperate in his aim to keep the Straw Hats together and alive.
Jin joins up with Ryuzo and the Straw Hats to secure food stores from the Mongols. In return, Jin asks Ryuzo to help him on his campaign to free Tsushima from its captors. As Ryuzo’s tale unfolds, his actions are unpredictable, and he will always leave you guessing what his true intentions really are.
In a time of despair and a land of chaos, Kenji is the comic relief that always leaves you wanting more. Any time his journey intertwines with Jin’s, he’s a welcomed sight to see. His voice, mannerisms, and outlandish plans are some of the highlights of Ghost of Tsushima.
This flabby, flexible, sake merchant is always ready to volunteer Jin to do something dangerous, so that he may have a chance to profit in some way. Kenji’s witless charm means that you always want to root for him, even when he sells the Mongols food, but gave them straw and wood chips instead.
Jin’s closest ally after the Mongol invasion left him dying on a beach, Yuna is the reason that Jin is alive. Unaware of who she was even saving, Yuna’s honor and need for assistance compelled her to save Jin.

Yuna cares most about her brother, perhaps even more than herself. Born a peasant and forced to become a thief to keep herself and her younger brother alive, Yuna will do whatever it takes to survive. With a strong desire to help Jin and save Tsushima, Yuna’s first and foremost concern is protecting her family.
2Khotun Khan
The brutal and relentless leader of the Mongol forces invading Tsushima, Khotun Khan is the grandson of the infamous Genghis Khan. After defeating Lord Shimura at Komoda Beach at the start of the game, Khotun Khan occupies Tsushima with no compassion or mercy.
With no honor in battle, Khotun Khan is unhindered by regard for his opponent. He fights dirty and also uses his intellect to be a ruthless and formidable foe. Although you will want to stop at nothing to destroy Khotun Khan, you must respect his diligence and commitment to his cause.
1Jin Sakai
After waking from a near-total defeat from the first meeting between the Mongols and the samurai, Jin Sakai must begin a campaign against his attackers with no other samurai by his side. Rallying allies, forming alliances, and liberating Tsushima one village at a time, Jin must reawaken the hope of the Japanese people in the face of a brutal captor.
Jin’s heroics in the face of an unforeseen terror are so legendary that they start a rumor among the people of Tsushima. No mere mortal could have done all these things - it must be the Ghost of Tsushima.
