Genshin Impactwas one of the most critically acclaimed titles of 2020 and has continued to grow over the past few months. Despite that, the game has received its fair share of criticism in recent times as well.
A few days ago,Genshin Impactwas trending on Twitter as the community urged players to boycott the game for a variety of reasons.
While miHoYo didn’t respond to any such complaints, the movement did gain a lot of traction. Now, the game has come under scrutiny once again due to theGenshin ImpactEula backstory.
Genshin Impact fans want to cancel Eula because of her Lawrence backstory
If you have been followingGenshin Impactnews lately, you might be well aware of the fact that the 1.5 Update is slated to arrive later this month. It will be adding two new characters, Eula and Yanfei, alongside a host of other things.
The update isn’t live yet, but fans are quite unhappy with Eula’s backstory. Eula is a descendant of the Lawrence clan, which ruled over the City of Mondstadt when the aristocracy grew corrupt. Here is her officialGenshin Impactlore, according toHoney Impact.
For Eula is a descendant of the once-aristocratic Lawrence Clan. The blood that flows through her veins once flowed through those of Mondstadt’s oppressors during one of the darkest periods of the city’s history.
The Lawrence clan is hated, and consequently, “Eula has been viewed with contempt by the citizens of Mondstadt since birth.” The Lawrence Clan has a history of slavery in the game’s lore, as it bought Vennessa’s clan, who were slaves.
This hasn’t gone down quite well with the community as they were unhappy with the involvement of slavery in the game.
While Eula herself doesn’t support the ideologies of her ancestors and joins the Knights of Favonius for vengeance, her ancestral lineage has made a number of people boycott the upcoming character.
