The ending ofJujutsu Kaisenhas become synonymous with an enigma. How did we go from complete destruction to a happy-go-lucky ending in just a few chapters? While the happy ending is great in itself, it leaves a lot to be desired. For instance, a dive into Sukuna’s Past. Gege Akutami brought everything to a close in the easiest and most convenient way possible without delving into the specifics. This has led to a long list of unanswered questions.

Sukuna is standing at the centre with two characters, behind him in Jujutsu Kaisen ending

Even though Sukuna’s past was never explored, Akutami was able to draw a beautiful end to his character arc. Out of all the characters in the series, he had the best conclusion. The brief conversation he had with Mahito unraveled his true desires. However, there was one aspect of that conversation which is a big mystery.

The Mysterious Woman From Sukuna’s Past

During hisfinal conversationwith Mahito, Sukuna mentioned the two choices he had; the two ways in which he could have led his life. While one choice led him to Uraume, the other one involved a black-haired woman that we know nothing about. She could be anyone but the most plausible option seems to be Yorozu or Sukuna’s mother. The woman being Yorozu is less likely given the relationship dynamics between Sukuna and her.

While Yorozu had her unique love and affection for Sukuna, it was somewhat unrequited. She gave it her all and treated it like a serious affair, whereas for Sukuna it was all fun and games. This makes Yorozu a less significant character in the grand scheme of things. It’s hard to imagine that Sukuna would remember her in such a crucial moment. While that is extremely sad, the woman being Sukuna’s mother aligns with his conclusion as well.

Sukuna’s Beautiful Conclusion inJujutsu Kaisen

The conversation with Mahito clarified one thing, that Sukuna’s destruction was him seeking revenge for how the world treated him. He initially admitted that seeking revenge and doing as he pleased was the exact same thing. But, he quickly realized that he inherently had two choices on what he wanted his life to be. Let us assume that the path that led him to Uraume was a path ruled by love, a life that understood and cherished love.

He chose to walk down that path after he was defeated. This makes the other path the life he led and the choice he made at the beginning. If the woman was indeed Sukuna’s mother, she could be the symbol of the mistreatment Sukuna was subjected to. It was also the same thing that directed him to become the King of Curses. Destruction was his way of seeking revenge on the world that neglected him. He chose that path and he met defeat.

In the end, he was again standing at the crossroads, met with the same two choices. It made him realize that he had the choice to let go of his past (his mother) and move on to the future (Uraume). He chose to not repeat the same mistake and walked off like the king that he was. It needs to be mentioned that there’s no way of knowing for sure who the mysterious woman was and these are all just theories and speculations.

Sukuna was an evil character and he caused suffering to many people. He was someone who should be hated to the depths of hell. However, the wayGege Akutamidesigned his journey and brought it to an end made him seem like the true protagonist. Moreover, we never even experienced his true journey as his past wasn’t explored. Yet, he’s the only character to get such a beautiful and complete end.
