Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced many female characters, but none could quite match Scarlett Johansson’s iconic Black Widow. Many appreciated her Superhero persona and iconic moves — especially the famous pose. But Florence Pugh isn’t rooting for it.

Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova in the MCU

Everyone knows that Pugh’s Yelena Belova is like a sister figure to Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff. Yelena—trained as a spy and assassin in the Red Room—initially targeted Natasha but later became her ally.

It’s the one and only Black Widow who introduced Florence Pugh to the MCU audience.Still, Pugh is pretty displeased over the stereotypical Black Widow pose that has become an integral character trait.

Florence Pugh’s Dislike for Black Widow Pose Forced MCU to Rewrite its Script

Florence Pugh mostly had indie genre experience when she came to the Black Widow set. She’s very vocal about the collaborative process. That’s whenexpressed her views aboutScarlett Johansson‘s—that time iconic—landing style in action scenes. It’s after a heroic leap, where she lands with one leg extended, the opposite hand touching the ground, and the other arm bent.

On the set when the team introduced Pugh to her the pose and told her (viaPedestrian TV),“You’re gonna have to come up with a pose.”Pugh was like,“Yeah, but like, whatis Scarlett’s pose? Like, surely that would hurt when she lands if she was actually landing from a height.”The Wonderactress then continued:

White Widow

“So on set one day, I was getting in the pose, and I was like, ‘Scarlett, you know, when you do this – like, this is super dangerous. I mean, what is this pose?’ AndEric Pearson, the writer, was in hysterics. And Scarlett was just like, ‘I can’t believe you’re taking the piss out of this thing that I have created and made’. And Eric was just basically taking notes in the corner, and he was like, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s going in the film’.

After having a discussion with Pugh, the team gave it a thumbs up. It then gets passed along to the writers, who made changes to the script. So, after theBlack Widowscript got a rewrite,Florence Pugh‘s character didn’t feature a superhero pose.
