One of the most beloved archetypes inFire Emblemis the nimble Sword wielder. Typically referred to as Myrmidons in the past, the class has also been known as Mercenary and currently, Sword Fighter. Though their role may sometimes overlap with the Lord class, they typically boast even higher Speed, making them ideal for rushing into combat and picking off targets. Thanks to their high Speed, they are often competent Avoid tanks, slipping past an enemy’s attack, and striking back with two of their own.

Fire Emblem: Engageintroduces a new member to the Myrmidon family in Lapis, a Brodian soldier and retainer to Prince Alcryst. Though her predecessors give her a lot to live up to, Lapis has the potential to be one of the most powerful units around. Here are some tips to making sure the Mighty Flower can truly bloom.
Growth Rates
While there are plenty of things that can make or break a unit’s viability, a surefire way to make a good unit is by blessing them with high Speed. Thankfully for Lapis, she is tied for the highest in the game at a phenomenal 55% growth. While her Strength is only average at best, her Speed will often make up for it. Even if it cannot, a magic weapon or teammate can often be designated to dispatch high-Defense targets. Finally, her Defense and Resistance, while not the highest around, are still plenty to compensate for the few attacks she fails to dodge.

Best Classes
While her base Sword Fighter is a powerful option, Lapis can thrive in any class that allows her to flex her impressive Speed.Swordmaster, Halberdier, and Warriorall function similarly well, though with different weapon options. Due to Lapis' poor Build, the best option is likely Halberdier, which provides easy access to the 1-2 range Javelins, not requiring her to use the much heavier Hand Axes.
Other options are the Griffin or Wyvern Knight, which provide increased mobility, allowing Lapis to carefully select which enemies she plans to take on. Griffin Knight, while powerful, put her in contention with Chloe who boasts much higher Magic, thus is likely better suited. The Wyvern Knight, however, provides a solid boost to Lapis' Strength and Defense growths, which, combined with her naturally high Speed makes for a terrifying attacker that can take hits in return.

Best Weapons
As mentioned, Lapis' low Build means she must stick to lighter weapons, and will absolutely appreciate engravings that lower Weight. A fantastic early option is a Holy engraving, which grants -1 Weight, +20 Avoid, and +1 Might. Equipped with an engraved Javelin or Steel Sword, Lapis will be able to dispatch plenty of enemies while fearing little retribution. Outside of these, Lapis will make good use of the Killer class of weapons, scoring frequent critical strikes thanks to her ability to double nearly any enemy. Finally, while she will often depend on allies to deal with high-Defense targets, she can also take matters into her own hands with a Flame Lance or Levin Sword, her Speed making up for her low Magic.

Best Emblem Rings
Lapis' choices of Emblem Ring partners are quite diverse and can be selected based on your play style or team composition. As with any speedy unit, she appreciates Lyn and Sigurd’s talents. Since they are bothhighly contested partners, however, she should also consider Marth, Leif, or Lucina. Marth’s Break Defenses and Divine Speed skills allow Lapis to target and dispatch units that she is able to break, and Marth’s boosts to Dexterity, Speed, and Strength further supplement Lapis' crucial stats.
Leif allows you more freedom when choosing weapons thanks to his large boost to Build, which can indirectly boost Lapis' Speed by removing the Weight penalty. His Arms Shield and Vantage skills also further boost her survivability, allowing her to survive situations that seem insurmountable. Finally, Lucina’s weapons, stats, and Dual Assist skill work quite well, allowing Lapis to assist allies with crucial chain attacks.
