Eiichiro Oda has made it quite clear that Imu might be the final antagonist inOne Piece. Being the shadow ruler of the World Government, Imu has already caused havoc for centuries. However, the actual ability and powers of Imu are yet to be revealed.
There have been tons of theories and speculations regarding Imu’s powers, but only one seems plausible in theOne Pieceworld. Rather than having the power to erase history, Imu might have a Devil Fruit similar to Gecko Moria’s, except several times more powerful.

AOne Piecetheory suggestsit was Imu who gave Devil Fruits their name. The intention behind it was to hide their own fruit which is the actual Devil Fruit, which grants its users the power to summon Devils. Naming every fruit a Devil Fruit would mean that it would make tracking down their fruit harder. A similar tactic was used by the World Government when they renamed Luffy’s Hito Hito no Mi: Nika Devil Fruit to Gomu Gomu no Mi just to hide the truth.

It is possible that during the Void Century, only one “Devil Fruit” was available, and since any surviving documents and myths would call it by that name, Imu made sure that all fruits would be called by this common term. Now, coming to Imu’s Devil Fruit, as the name suggests, it might hold the power to summon actual devils.
The theory suggests that after summoning the demon/devil, Imu can infuse it with an Earthly host, like a human. There might be different ranks of demons in the underworld, which Imu can use according to their will. Imu themself might be the host to the highest-ranking devil, which could be Lucifer or Satan. Anyone who is a host will be able to see the powers of the devils themselves.

Considering that Imu can indeed summon demons from the underworld, the infusion with hosts gives them immortality and invulnerability. This is how Imu has lived for centuries, andthe Elders under himare also immortal. Since demons are immortals, their properties get transferred to their hosts.
Since the body of the host is fused with the devils summoned by Imu, they can be summoned from place to place according to Imu’s will, just like how the Gorosei arrived on Egghead Island by using summoning circles. And since the demons are connected to Imu, they can also communicate via Imu to their hosts. Thus, Imu acts as a controller as well as a distributor of information.

Last but not least, separating the hosts from their respective devils automatically kills the host. This could be because the demon takes its immortality with it, leaving the host to catch up with the natural flow of time. This is probably how Saturn died as well. Imu did not strip him of immortality but the demon that was possessing him and that is why Saturn withered away with only his skeleton left behind.
