First revealed at last year’s The Game Awards ceremony, the upcomingFast & Furious Crossroadswas meant to bring the beloved movie franchise to consoles and PC this May, specifically to coincide with the upcomingFast 9. However, with the film’s delay to April 2021–nearly a full year from its original release date–due to growing worldwide concerns over the coronavirus, the future ofCrossroadsseems to be up in the air.
In a statement toUSGamer, developer Codemasters had confirmed that the launch ofCrossroads–which was originally aimed for June 17, 2025–is now “uncertain” following the delay ofFast 9from theaters this summer. The statement continued that “a further announcement will be made in due course to confirm the release date” of the game, when that timeline has been established.
With the wide-spreading impact of the coronavirus across the world and across numerous business, the entertainment industry specifically has been hit particularly hard with delays and cancellations of upcoming projects. Alongside other high-profile Hollywood releases that were aimed for this spring such asNo Time to Die,A Quiet Place Part II, andMulan,Fast 9joined with them in being delayed to a later time, but ended up being pushed with a year-long delay in mind. At this time,No Time to Dieis delayed until November, whileA Quiet Place Part IIandMulanare delayed indefinitely.
Given thatCrossroads–while not directly tied narratively toFast 9–was meant to debut alongside the film this May, it would make sense that the game’s developers might opt to delay the game and time its release closer to the film. However, publisher Bandai Namco gave a statement that “the development team at Slightly Mad Studios and Codemasters will continue to finalize the game as planned,” making it unclear what the game’s release window will be at the moment.
Fast & Furious Crossroadsis currently in development for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
