To get their radiation-fueled transformation, players will need to reach level 50and head toa new area of the Savage Divide region with the “Leap of Faith” quest, where they will meet characters to help them with the transition into their new life and experience Appalachia in a new way.

Becoming a ghoul gives players access to new mechanics and a whole new set of perk cards to set them apart from non-ghoul players, but also locks them out of certainfaction-specific content.

Why Should You Embrace The Ghoul Within?

Becoming a ghoul gives you access to the ghoul-exclusive feral and glow mechanics, along with new perks.

While you’re a ghoul, you won’t need to worry about hunger or thirst, but you will need to manage your feral meter, which is constantly draining over time and can be refilled by consuming chems.

However, instead of keeping it completely full, there areboth benefits and drawbacks to letting it fall a bit, as long as you don’t let it get too low.

Once it gets below 60%, though, you might want to start looking at refilling it before the drawbacks start to outweigh the benefits.

Glow is the way ghouls interact with radiation. Instead of reducing your max HP like for non-ghoul characters,it now does the opposite, giving you glow, which heals you and increases your max HP as you build up rads.

You can accumulate glow the same way you’d normally gain rads: spending time in irradiated areas and consuming tainted food and drinks. Being a ghoul makes you immune to diseases too.

Why The Original Fallout Didn’t Get A Happy Ending According To Game Creator Tim Cain

The creator of Fallout, Tim Cain, initially proposed a much happier ending, which was scrapped for the more depressing one we ultimately got.

Somenew ghoul-exclusive perksinclude Bone Shatterer, giving a +45% chance to cripple limbs with melee attacks; Glowing Gut, which increases the rad gain from food by 300%; and Jaguar Speed, which increases your sprint speed by 20% while you have high glow, to name a few.

Being a ghoul isn’t all benefits, though; it will impact your interactions with human characters, and certain factions, such asthe Brotherhood of Steel, will refuse to interact with you entirely. Some will even become hostile and attack you on sight, locking out their quest lines.

However, you can get around that block by wearing a disguise provided by a new NPC named Jaye, which will give you access to hostile factions again.

But if you decide to give up the ghoul life, you can revert to being a human. Just note that reverting is a one-time thing, andif you want to be a ghoul again, you’ll need to shell out 1000 atoms in the store, or around $10 USD.

There’s a lot more going on in today’s update, and if you’re interested in the full details, Bethesda has released the fullpatch notes.
