Denizens of Appalachia are getting a new way to take a load off and enjoy irradiated nature.
Bethesda hasannouncedthe next big update coming toFallout 76, available in a patch coming to the game’s Public Test Server today, that will add fishing to the game, along witha significant overhaul to the game’s combat system.

This new addition comes hot on the heels of another highly-requested feature inlast month’s Ghoul Within update, which gave playersthe option to become ghouls.
To get their first fishing rod, players who own the game on Steam just need to log on to the PTS and head to the Mire region to start the “Casting Off” quest.

Catching Fish And Smashing Limbs
The “Casting Off” quest will introduce players to the Fisherman (formerly known as Captain Raymond Clark) and his pet giant hermit crab Linda-Lee, and players will receive a fishing rod, which isn’t an equippable piece of gear in the Pip-Boy, but will give access to the “Fish” command when the player approaches a suitable body of water.
According to Bethesda, if you’re able to swim in the water, you can fish in it.

The fishing rod can be upgraded by completing fishing challenges and daily quests, and players will be able to choose between different rod styles, bobbers, and reels to help land bigger and better catches.
The Fallout 76 Ghoul Within Patch Is Live Today, And The Ghoul Life Has Never Looked So Good
You can finally become a ghoul in a Fallout game, and it’s looking like a pretty good way to go.
There are three different kinds of bait: common bait you’re able to purchase normally, improved bait that needs to be found in the world or from daily fishing quests, and superb bait, which will be available as event rewards.

What fish you can catch will depend on the bait you use and the weather; rainy weather will give a chance to catch region-specific fish or one of the 12 different monthly axolotls, while fishing in radstorms and weather caused by nuclear strikes may let you find glowing fish.
you may turn your catch into edible Fish Bits at cooking stations, and you’ll eventually learn to make grilled fish, with more pronounced effects, along with other recipes.

The new PTS update also includes a significant change to the combat system, namely in the way crippling enemy limbs works. Instead of your attacks having a set chance to cripple body parts, enemy limbs now have their own health, and doing enough damage will cripple them.
This change is intended to make the system more consistent and predictable, as well as to allow Bethesda to remove cripple immunity from certain enemies, significantly altering how players approach combat by rewarding focused fire on specific body parts. All existing perks, mutations, weapons, and weapon mods that previously gave a percentage chance to cripple limbs now give a boost to limb damage.
The combat update is expected to come to main servers before the fishing update, which is set forlater this year.
