Distant Bloom, the cosy management sim thatimpressed during last year’s Future Games Show, has received a release date of March 27.
Distant Bloom was announced in 2022 as the second project of developer Ember Trail. The studio’s debut title was Main Assembly, a physics-based sandbox where you could design vehicles and pilot your creations.

Ember Trail is pursuing a different genre with Distant Bloom, throwing its hat into the ever-competitive cosy management sphere. The game centres around a crew of aliens who become scattered around a foreign planet. While reconnaissance suggested the planet would be teeming with life, you arrive to find a desolate, decaying world. You’ll need to not only restore life to the dying environment but also solve the mystery behind what caused the ecological collapse in the first place, not to mention find your missing crewmates.
The gameplay consists of cultivating ecosystems by growing plants that synergise with one another. This is where experimentation comes into play, as you’ll need to play around with a variety of alien flora to find the best combinations. As is to be expected with the genre, there are settlement-building mechanics, a variety of environments, and a lot of crafting.
Ember Trail is trying to create a stress-free experience for Distant Bloom’s players. The studio is not trying to add any additional bustle to already busy lives. Distant Bloom won’t have any unnecessary edge, and players can expect a wholesome time.
As is to be expected with the genre, there are settlement-building mechanics, a variety of environments, and a lot of crafting.
Distant Bloom will be published by Kinda Brave Entertainment, a Swedish game portfolio company that specialises in independent games. Some of its previous projects include The Great Below, a reverent PS1-style horror, and 100 Steps, a board game-inspired roguelike.
Distant Bloom will be released on March 27 on Steam, with no current plans to bring the game to consoles.
