In a new interview withPCGamesN, Sam Barlow, the lead designer and writer behind the critically acclaimed Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, expressed his concerns over the release of Silent Hill 2 Remake. Stating that he is not excited about playing remasters in general, Barlow adds that remasters are the biggest poison chalice in the industry. Wishing the team good luck, he further adds that he is not sure how Silent Hill 2 can be remastered without upsetting the people.
Barlow isn’t quite correct in his statement as Silent Hill 2 is a full-blown remake, rather than a more routine remaster. In terms of remakes, we’ve witnessed some really good examples lately. For instance, the Resident Evil remakes are doing exceedingly well.Resident Evil 4’s Remakefixes a lot of issues the original game had, and it was the epitome of the fact that a widely acclaimed game could be improved significantly as well. Likewise, Mafia: Definitive Edition managed to receive a good response from the community as well.
Bloober Team recently confirmed that Silent Hill 2 Remake is technically ready, but the release date is something that is still up to Konami to decide. While there is still a while to go for the development to finish, the developer’s statement suggests that we might in fact see the release date of the game being announced very soon. Additionally, Konami seems to have a number of plans for the Silent Hill franchise going forward, with a number of projects already in the works and the team already inviting developers to pitch their ideas for the Silent Hill franchise. The new releases aside, fans are undoubtedly most excited for the release of Silent Hill 2 Remake, and it remains to be seen whether Bloober Team can instil the same magic as the likes of the Resident Evil franchise.
