Hyper Light Breakerhas quite a bevy of melee options at your disposal, from the humble shortswordto high-damage heavy weapons, and they’re quite varied.

You’ll probably gravitate to a particular weapon and try to hold onto it for as long as possible, but if you’re shopping for one, it’s a good idea to know which are the best.

The 15 Best Roguelikes For Under $20

These are the best roguelikes for under $20 right now so you don’t have to worry about taking out a small loan to pick them up!

TheseHyper Light Breakerbladeswill all be ranked based on their inherent and special abilities and their base stats at Lv. 0, as factoring in modifiers isn’t reasonable.

I fully encourage you to use your best judgment, as a blade with a good modifier will always be pretty decent, even if it’s at the lower end of the list; you’d just wish it were something else.

8Bloody Pillar

Your Blood Will Be Spilled

If you want to hit things with a massive meat cleaver, then Bloody Pillar does give you that experience, even if it sucks, and I never want to use it.

It deals in big hits, with the special boosting your attack speed heavily, which sounds lovely until you realize the boost only lasts a few seconds and the damage is awful.

You’ll be slowly hacking away at an enemy, then boost just to get a single melee combo’s worth of attack speed, just to back down to hacking away slowly again.

The dash attack is ok, being a decent way to get in and pressure enemies, but it hardly matters when you’re going to get overwhelmed by more than two of them.

7Zero Edge

But I Love Edge

The Zero Edge feels like it could be a good weapon, focusing on massive, sweeping hits that deal big damage to all the surrounding enemies, but it leaves you super vulnerable.

Unlike every weapon above it, this one only deals damage in second-long blows that deal tons of damage, meaning you will fold to any projectile that you can’t parry.

7 Best Roguelike RPGs, Ranked

There have been a lot of great Roguelikes with RPG elements released so far. Here’s a look at some of the absolute best.

The dash attack and charged attacks aren’t much better. They still are big hits that deal big damage, and the special is another big hit with nothing to supplement it.

If you don’t have a good gun or good amp to support this weapon, you will get overwhelmed and die, especially during boss fights, where you need to stay on your toes.

6Giant’s Needle

A Cool Toothpick

The Giant’s Needle is a weird weapon, built more around trapping enemies and setting up rather than allowing for an aggressive playstyle, which makes it pretty polarizing.

That said, there is some merit to it, namely the special being homing bombs that come out instantly. This is a great way to quickly pick off enemies you’re running from.

The charge attack is the main thing on display here. It’ll have you toss the spear forward, piercing into enemies, and sticking a spear into them that’ll explode for massive damage.

The only reason the Giant’s Needle is ranked this low is that it’s mind-bogglingly slow. The only quick thing with it is the bombs, and it has no horizontal range, leaving you incredibly open.

5Breaker’s Buster

Chop and Stop

Heavy weapons are an incredibly mixed bag, as evident by the rest of this list, but the Breaker’s Buster is an exceptional one since it actually fulfills the role of high risk and high reward.

You’re leaving yourself pretty open by using it, sure, but in exchange, you do massive swings that are great for crowd control, and its special is one of the best in the game.

The shockwave you get from your special does massive damage, can be charged for more damage, and will hit pretty much everything directly in front of you, killing most small mobs instantly.

It’s not great for bosses, where you typically want to stay on your toes and keep a pretty nimble blade by your side so you can parry, but this is impeccable forexploringHyper Light Breaker’s world.

4Vector Hammer

Vector to the Heavens

The Vector Hammer is easily the best heavy weapon in the game. It’s an incredibly powerful force to be reckoned with, but when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object, something’s got to give.

It has a large range and can take out most minibosses in just a few hits. On the other hand, minibosses can also take you out in just a few hits, and if they don’t get staggered, you’ll be taking a ton of damage.

This weapon is still, unfortunately, very slow, especially if you try to use the dash attack or charge it. The main melee combo and the special are the only attacks that come out reasonably quickly.

It’s great at dealing with hordes and good with single targets, but if you’re dealing with a boss that has some goons with them, you’ll struggle quite a bit.

3Solar Bolters

Slice and Dice

This is what I like to call “Mom said we have Gamma Claws at home.” The Solar Bolters are cool-looking and require you to be careful and pick off enemies quickly, in a game that throws dozens of enemies at you.

They’re great at closing distance and focusing on one enemy at a time, able to stun-lock them with numerous small hits. But face more than one, and you’re cooked.

This makes it especiallyhard to do boss fightsor extract with these things unless you’ve buffed them up a ton, and can quickly shred health, which doesn’t take too much effort.

Their special just increases your crit chance, and the charge attack barely does anything. Still, if you’re looking for a simple and quick way to deal lots of damage, this is your GOAT.

2Soldier’s Light

The Default Warrior

The first blade you start with is genuinely pretty great, as you’re treated to nice attack speed, a special that doesn’t take too long to charge, and a massive projectile.

The damage isn’t impressive by any means, but firing out a massive cross-slash usually ends in every enemy in front of you being completely decimated.

10 Roguelike Hidden Gems You Need To Play

Roguelikes are a pretty elusive genre, being held up almost entirely by obscure indies, but some of these less-loved games are awesome.

Even better is that the special fires off almost immediately, making for one hell of a panic option. The standard melee hits do leave a bit to be desired, though.

You’ll only really be hitting one or two enemies at a time with this, but they’re pretty fast, and the special is so good that you’re able to dash out of crowds while it charges to hit them with it again.

1Gamma Claws

Claw To Victory

This pair of claws is incredibly solid, more than it has any right to be. This is mainly because they attack super quickly and don’t deal a pitiful amount of damage in exchange.

The only downside to Gamma Claws is its lackluster special. The claws special drop mines that sit on the floor and take a while to place, and are only worth a damn if you lure enemies into them.

The best use of this weapon is to slash into massive groups of enemies, using your bombs to get them off you. You are the crowd control with these things, as they cover you from almost every angle.

If you can find Gamma Claws with excellent attributes, you’ve practically won. Just upgrade them and go about the rest of your run using melee combos to victory.
