One Piecehas a plethora of fights, and even among them, those that involve Zoro are the best. Every fight he takes on is a near-death experience but he pretends as if nothing happened. It’s rewarding to see him overcome his shortcomings to defeat his opponents, like the time when he finally figured out how he could defeat Daz Bones.

With every arc, he becomes stronger and his mastery of swordsmanship improves. He’s among the best swordsman in his world but he has yet to reach his goal inOne Piece. His goal is to become the world’s greatest swordsman and for that, he has to surpass Mihawk. Fans are eagerly waiting for the moment when that finally happens.

While it’s hard to quantify the difference between their strengths, Mihawk is clearly leagues ahead of Zoro in one aspect as he wields a Black Blade. Some fan theories have been surfacing on the internet that hint at Zoro acquiring the Black Blade, but the cost might be too great.

One Piece TheoryHints at Zoro’s Biggest Achievement Yet Will Come At a Great Cost

While wielding a Black Blade isn’t a compulsion to become the greatest swordsman, at least not for now, Zoro could turn Enma into a Black Blade. The exact conditions for turning a blade black are still a mystery, the only known condition is that a blade turns black after countless battles. Mihawk wields Yoru, which is a Black Blade and one of the 12 Supreme Grade Blades. Similarly, Ryuma’s Shusui was also a Black Blade. Zoro has enma which could potentially turn black, but the biggest question is how?

Besides Mihawk, another mysterious swordsman is Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro, one of the Five Elders inOne Piece. Even though we have never seen him in a full-fledged fight, except for thefew scenes in Egghead, it’s safe to assume that he doesn’t wield a Black Blade. Or it would have been mentioned by now. The reason why Mihawk’s blade is black and Nusjuro’s isn’t could also be the reason that potentially helps Zoro in turning Enma black.

Some fan theories came to the conclusion that a swordsman might need to risk their own life in countless battles to turn their blade black. This theory makes sense because Nusjuro is known to be immortal, so his life couldn’t be threatened in the same way. If Zoro experiences something which threatens him to his core, he could probably turn Enma into a Black Blade. When one looks at it like that, it’s a bone-chilling theory.

Here’s How Probable This Theory Is

The biggest contradiction to this theory is Zoro’s past fights. He has gone through many difficult fights and life-threatening experiences, however, it can easily be explained by stating that more difficult fights await Zoro in the future. If this is indeed true, then Zoro fans should buckle up, as the character might suffer more than he already has. Even if this theory is true, there might be some other conditions as well.

It could also depend on the swordsman and his weapon’s compatibility. Enma might be the most compatible with Zoro than his other swords. There are numerous possibilities, and the correct one can only be revealed byEiichiro Oda. Whatever the true conditions are, difficult fights await Zoro and they might be exciting, but probably won’t be pleasant to witness as a fan.
