It’s a whole new week inElden Ring Nightreign, as the madmen at FromSoftware are slowly launching the second wave of the Everdark Sovereign Nightlords.Maris, Fathom of Nightin the Augur expedition has now gotten its turn for a reboot.

I’ll be brutally honest, I’m not a huge fan of the base Nightlord aside from it being a massive eye-candy boss fight. With the Everdark Sovereign version, it has even more of a mixed reaction from fans, myself included.

But hey, we’re not here to talk about that. Because with today’s guide, I invite you to join meas I detail the optimal strategy and prep you need to defeat the Everdark Soverign Augur in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Since I played it inthe brand-new Duos mode, the team composition I’ll be recommending for Everdark Sovereign Augur below can fit into both Duos and the normal Trios mode. But I’ve also highlighted which characters work the best out of the three.

The bottom line is that you’ll want Nightfarers that have the highest HP,since this overall battle is an attrition test with a gimmicky twist. Even characters likeRevenantcan work, but if you’re using squishy characters likeIroneye, you’ll have your teeth kicked in.

Key Differences With Everdark Sovereign Augur

The Everdark Sovereign version of Augur is a gimmick fight that throws your weapons and gear out of the window, for the most part.

If you’re largely familiar with the Yhorm fight in Dark Souls 3 or using the Serpent Hunter Spear against Rykard in Elden Ring, then you’ll immediately know what’s going to happen here.

maris using sleeping attack

After taking down the low HP version of base Maris, it’ll drop a boon that’ll reward your team with a weapon that has the Storm Ruler Ash of War.On the controller, by pressing down L2 or LT, you can activate the Ash of War to launch magical slash projectiles at the cost of FP.

Important:Just like the Storm Ruler from DS3, you can hold down L2/LT to unleash a charged-up horizontal crescent that deals more damage. It will also replenish your FP.

You need to use this Ash of War to deal damage to Maris, since other armaments or even ranged weaponry are practically useless. In a team of three, the fight can feel atrociously long, but in Duos and Solo, you’ll definitely have an easier time—it’s up to you.

Lastly, aside from the new attack, which I’ll go over in a bit, once it reaches past 1/3rd HP, Maris will spawn a meteor collar around it.

Those meteors or orbs can be targeted and broken to weaken the laser attacks, and if you break them all, you’re able to stagger the boss to lay on the hurt.

Everdark Sovereign Augur Moveset

As is the case with the other Nightlords and their enhanced variants that we’ve covered, I’ve detailed the major attacks of the Everdark Sovereign Augur below.

I won’t be covering the base form Augur, as it has a relatively low HP that you and your team should easily breeze past without any worries.

Unlike previous Everdark Nightlords that I’ve discussed, there aren’t too many attacks in this phase. The most common one will obviously be the Meteor Shower, but besides that, they’re mostly self-explanatory for this gimmick battle.

Description

Rushing Charge

A standard attack from its base form, where Augur will charge in a direction that can be easily evaded since it’s a telegraphed attack.

Meteor Shower

The most common attack that you’ll see throughout the fight. Maris launches a stream of meteors around your vicinity, which then explode after a brief period.

Tidal Wave

Maris will charge up and unleash a massive tsunami-like bubble that slowly damages you when inside it. Thankfully, you may easily evade it by running to the side since it’ll follow the direction instead of the player.

Sleepy Time

Much like the attack from the base form, Maris will enter a curled-up state where it’ll slowly build up your sleep status around the area. If you’re far away, either run away, or you and your teammates can easily interrupt it with Storm Ruler’s attacks.

Eruption Beam

From a distance, Maris will launch a straight-shot laser beam at your location, lighting up the ground before causing it to explode after a couple of seconds. This attack may one-shot squishy Nightfarers and requires you to time your dodge roll to evade it promptly. Otherwise, you’re able to try to run out of the laser’s area to the side to avoid the explosion, or before it does this attack.

Meteor Lasers

From the meteor collar that I mentioned previously, Maris can launch laser beams at players, which can be reduced and weakened as you target and break them via the Storm Ruler’s light projectiles. It can also launch these lasers alongside other attacks that I’ve mentioned above if they aren’t taken out.

How To Beat Everdark Sovereign Augur

Preparation & Base Form Augur

Much like theenhanced Sentient Pestthat we previously fought, the fight against Everdark Sovereign Augur shouldn’t be too complicated, as I’ve already iterated in the team composition and moveset sections of the guide.

To reiterate, weaknesses or the loadout in general won’t matter. The Evergaol Relic will prove beneficial because of the +5% attack power it gives per Evergaol prisoner defeated in your first and second days.If possible, any boon that provides resistance against magic attacks is also extremely valuable here.

However, I strongly recommend that you activate and bring along theNoklateo Shifting Earth Event’s favor, which will grant you and your team an auto-revive upon death. I’ve seen a few online teammates and my friends run out of flasks and die towards the end of the fight.

Firstly, defeat the base form of Augur. I know my team comp doesn’t suggest Ironeye, but I assure you, the base form should stay down low enough for characters like Wylder or Raider to squeeze in their weapon hits. Maris also has low HP, so it should take less than a minute to bypass this form.

Everdark Sovereign Maris, Fathom of Night

I’ll be brief about the strategy: depending on the character you’re using and their FP, you’ll want to micromanage as much as possible.I know you can refill that by holding down the Storm Ruler attack button, but that’ll also leave you open to getting damaged by Maris' new attacks, so stay vigilant.

That meteor shower will easily be the most annoying attack to deal with throughout the fight,as I’ve shown above in the image. Still, as a Raider, I was able to tank through them and only lost about a sliver of my HP on most single explosions. Guardian players can time their guard to negate the damage.

If in duos or trios, spread out evenly across the arena as much as you can.The last thing you need is for everyone to get damaged by the Meteor attacks or the Eruption Beam.

Use the Storm Ruler’s light attacks as much as possible andONLY use the charged-up version when Maris isn’t flying or at an elevated position, or when it’s doing the sleep build-up attack to interrupt it as I’ve depicted above.

This entire battle can take a toll on you, since Maris likes to move around a lot, raining down with its AOE-like attacks and, with the damage scaling of three players, you’ll probably be stuck in this fight for a good 10–15 minutes.

Second Phase

About a quarter of the way through the fight, Maris will spawn a total of five meteors around its head, and these will shoot out lasers every once in a while or when it’s doing any of its normal attacks. These need to be taken down by using the Storm Ruler’s projectiles,or else they’ll overwhelm you.

Do not be greedy here; wait until Maris isn’t aggroed at you and then go for your chance to take out the meteors. The projectiles have decent enough tracking that they should easily be able to break most of the orbs/meteors.

Maris will stun and momentarily fall, allowing you to deal some big damage using the charged-up slash of the Storm Ruler.Don’t even try going for the riposte attack, just lay on as much damage as you may by spamming the Storm Ruler’s attacksand re-charge FP by using the charged-up attack.

For your first-time victory against Everdark Sovereign Augur, you’ll receive x25 Sovereign Sigils.Upon your visit to theCollector Signboard Merchantin the Roundtable, you can also pick up the Dark Night of the Fathom relic,as shown in the image above.
