FromSoftware’s games are pretty good in most aspects. They provide gamers with incredibly dynamic gameplay mechanics; they provide them with a number of pieces of equipment and abilities to choose from and focus on. They also provide them with a grand story full of incredibly detailed characters. The best part is thatElden Ring, their largest game yet, has every single one of those things.

But just in the usual FromSoftware style, they do not have this story in a streamlined manner. It is broken into pieces, and it is told through the environment and item descriptions. This means that characters often take time before players can understand them completely. A newElden Ringtheory suggests fans were misinterpreting the role of Miquella all this time.
The NewElden Ringfan theory suggests that Miquella never left the Lands Between at all
Miquella is no doubt one of themost mysterious characters in theElden Ring.He is talked about by every single person in the game, but he never shows up in person. In fact, some of the things that people say about him are never confirmed either. Miquella just exists somewhere in that game.
Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree is Getting Beaten By One Xbox to PlayStation Game in One Surprising Way
Years before the main story starts, he and his sister, Malenia, are trying their best to survive. Their survival is not the struggle with life, but the ailments that they have. One of them is infected by a poisonous disease, while the other is cursed to never grow. Miquella would be trapped in an infant’s form forever.
He is working hard to find a cure for his sister’s disease and his own curse. In fact, his temporary cure for his sister is a thing called a needle of unalloyed gold. Which stops scarlet rot from spreading to an extent. And he attaches himself to his haligtree.

For those unaware, he had designed Haligtree to be a safe haven for his followers, his sister, and himself. But once the great war starts, everything goes into shambles. Malenia was in the process of healing near the roots of Haligtree, but she had to leave her place when Miquella went missing.
It was supposedly Mohg who stole him, and Malenia fought the world to get him back. She never knew where he went, though, and some say she fought Radahn because Mohg’s palace is just below Caelid, the location that Radahn rules.

That’s when they fought to a standstill, and that’s what led to Malenia having to let go of her scarlet rot and infect a whole place with this disease. But this new fan theory suggests she did all this in vain, as Miquella was never lost.Redditor wangchangbackupsuggests that he transferred his consciousness into the tree.
One Prominent Character Nearly Spoiled Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree and We Didn’t Even Notice
Maybe that’s why Mohg was not able to revive Miquella’s form even though he shared his blood with the little guy, but Miquella never responded. Maybe the reason was that Miquella was in the tree? There’s a possibility here; he is capable of such things; he is powerful enough.
If he were in that body that Mohg had stolen, he would have simply awakened and done something about that guy. But the fact that Miquella never responded has one simple explanation: he was never there. And maybe that’s the reason Malenia is there, defending the roots of Haligtree.

But then who is in theElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree?
In the Shadow Lands ofElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtreetrailer, a character is shown very briefly. That character is wearing all white, and all the dialogue around that scene points out the fact that maybe this person is Miquella.
Hidetaka Miyazaki Had A Very Good Reason For Stopping George RR Martin From Writing Elden Ring’s Main Storyline
How come Miquella is in the shadow lands if he is stuck inside the Haligtree? Did he find a way to free himself? Or maybe shadow lands have something to do with Haligtree; this will be revealed once the DLC launches on August 06, 2025.
