One of the better caves to trek through inElden Ringis known as the Cave of the Forlorn in the Consecrated Snowfield. As this is in the late-game territory, it will take a while to reach it, but the rewards are more than worth it.
Traversing Through The Cave Of The Forlorn
The Cave of the Forlorn is a secluded cave that can be reached by the frozen river which cuts through the Consecrated Snowfield. The cave’s boss is armed with one of the Lands Between’s legendary weapons, and the cave is filled with jellyfish, misbegotten, and a few rats. To enter this location, you will need 2 Stonesword Keys.
From the Site of Grace, drop down to the Northeast on the ice to pick up the Golden Rune [7]. Continue east, past the summoning pool pillar of ice that divides the room. You’ll find a corpse with 4 Freezing Grease after you pass the icy column to the right. You will find a sleeping winged misbegotten southeast of the corpse, essentially earning you free runes. You have the option to go north through the dark passageway, but there are only two misbegotten and three rats in the room to your left. The only thing that will be there as a reward is one Freezing Grease, so it may not be worth it. Continue east to the next chamber. Turn left and begin to sneak; you will find a melee misbegotten asleep around the corner with a winged companion just beyond. You will need to mount a strong attack and first take out the larger foe; then you can deal with the flyer.

There is a Nascent Butterfly located in the corpse. Next, go South to find a Gold Rune [10]. Continue East and follow the passage northward. You’ll cross a narrow gap before entering a large chamber containing Miquella’s Lilies. Head Northeast, then climb up on the rocks against the wall. Then, jump Southwest until you reach the Hero’s Rune [2]. From here, you can then see the path forward (path 2) and an alternative route (path 1).

Path #1 Through The Cave
You can choose path #1 by turning on your Lantern and heading north through the tunnel. There will be a misbegotten that will be sleeping. You can either sneak past it or retreat through the tunnel. Continue North through the tunnel to reach an open chamber with an icy floor.
Sneak up on the first misbegotten one on the ice, and unleash a powerful attack. Try to get rid of them quickly before the winged and large misbegotten wake up. To avoid the flying enemies' ranged attacks, you can retreat to the high ground and into a tunnel. Once all three enemies have been defeated, you can grab the Rune Arc or x10 Spiritflame Arrow on the eastern side of the room. Continue on the same route as before, heading south through the tunnels and then turning right to continue west along path #2.

Path #2 Through The Cave
Walk along the right wall, and go deeper into the room until you reach the lowest point of the rocks. Then jump up to the highest point and cross the gap south to continue around the corner. Now hug the left wall, dropping down until you reach the ground. Then continue your descent southwards. You’ll encounter some angry jellyfish! As you climb uphill towards the west, take them out. Soon you’ll find some jellies over a few corpses. Clear them out, then loot the bodies for 8 Crystal Darts, 3 Miquella’s Lily, and 2 Thawfrost Boluses. Then, continue northwest along the narrow aperture of rocks.
You’ll need to curve the passage left and kill more jellyfish. Just as you enter the next room, a corpse with 3 Thawfrost Boluses is located against the wall. Pay attention to the pit in the center of the room as you battle the jellies. Once they are dead, move around the hole to the Southwest. You will be able to drop onto a pit ledge. To land on the next ridge, jump Northeast from the ledge and then south to the ridge below. Grab the 6 Freezing Grease on the dead body before jumping one last time. It’s directly north from here to the bosses, “traverse the mist,” where you will face the Misbegotten Crusader.

After the boss has been felled, you will receive the Golden Order Greatsword as a reward. From here, you can either take the wisp directly to the dungeon’s entrance.
