We’ve reached the age of cinematic universes in Hollywood thanks to Marvel Studios, and several filmmakers have been coming up with their own version of this as it proved to be successful and profitable. Robert Eggers, for one, will be directing another horror thriller, and fans could not help but call this event the start of his own cinematic universe.

After his venture with vampires inNosferatu, he will be working on a new werewolf horror project with Focus Features. The Lily-Rose Depp movie was a commercial and critical hit during the Christmas holidays, so Eggers and his team are also looking to releaseWerwulfaround the same period next year.
Robert Eggers’ new project might be the beginning of his own cinematic universe
As perThe Hollywood Reporter,Robert Eggersworked with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón on the script ofWerwulf, which is reportedly set in 13th-century England. The outlet also shared that the film will incorporate dialogues used during the time period, which is Old English, and will be accompanied by translations and annotations. The project was initially planned to be in black and white, but Eggers eventually changed his mind.
Fans expressed their excitement for the upcoming feature film, with some even assuming this is going to be the start of an Eggers cinematic universe. The director has worked with different types of horror persona in the past, with some of them set during the medieval era. Read their tweets below:

An insane double feature coming up with this and Nosferatu. I can’t wait man
Eggers thrives in this specific genre, and it looks like we’re going to see more of this kind in the future. While the filmmaker never confirmed his movies to be set in the same timeline, he revealed in an interview that he has no intention of switching it up.

“There are things that I have skills in”: ‘Nosferatu’ Director Has Made It Clear Which Type of Movies He Will Never Make, and It’s Not Just Marvel
When asked byiHorrorif he would ever helm a project set in the modern time, he said, “I wouldn’t, you know, I’m just not interested. I wouldn’t wanna have to photograph cars and cell phones and other…firing objects.”
Robert Eggers won’t likely direct a Marvel movie
Eggers’ name had been floating around on the Internet a few years ago after he was rumored to be in talks to helmThor 5. Now, it seems like a good idea given hisknowledge of Norse folklore and mythology, but it does not look like a domain he would want to work on. For one thing, he would have to compromise his own creative stream and meet the studio’s demands.
‘Nosferatu’ Director Will Never Make a Marvel Movie, But ‘The Batman’ Probably Showed Him to Never Say Never: ‘I learned a lot of stuff from it’
In his own cinematic universe, he is free to let his original ideas flow. Fans will now be looking forward to Christmas for some touch of horror during the festive season, and who knows—we might get a new Eggers film every two years!
Werwulfis scheduled to hit theatres on Christmas Day 2026.
