Jennifer Lawrence has made a reputation for herself as someone unafraid to speak her mind. Being extremely candid about all that goes on in her mind, she is known for saying some extremely out-of-pocket, yet honest statements in every appearance she makes. She is very outspoken about what she passionately believes in and her life experiences, not shying away from talking about them during interviews.

Naturally, during an interview with Stephen Colbert, the actress practiced something similar, saying what she wanted to with no filter whatsoever. While this trait has helped her become one of the most authentic and loved personalities in recent times, in this particular context, it seemed to have backfired. The actress was asked about her opinions onThe Lord of the Ringsfranchise, and her truthful answer offended Colbert deeply, who adores these films.

Jennifer Lawrence Is Not A Fan OfThe Lord Of The Rings
Jennifer Lawrence made an appearance onThe Late Show with Stephen Colbertto promote her 2021 film,Don’t Look Up. Here, she was asked by the television host if she had any traditions during the holidays. She explained that, though she did not, she did end up watching theHarry Potterfranchise obsessively during Thanksgiving time. It was here that Colbert brought up another franchise that is put in the same genre as the Daniel Radcliff films, asking the actress if she had ever seenThe Lord of the Ringsfranchise.
“I inhale all of the Harry Potters; the day after Thanksgiving, it’s Harry Potter time.”said Lawrence. She was then asked if she had seen the Lord of the Rings series, to which, she said that,“I love those, but they are all like the same movie in my mind.”

Lawrence mentioned that she had seen them and loved the $5.8 billion franchise, however, there was one thing that she did not like about them. She stated that she found these films to be quite forgettable, all blending into one singular film for her. She added that she finds it difficult to differentiate between the six films, not being able to remember specific details from each film.

Stephen Colbert Was Not Happy With Jennifer Lawrence’s Answer
The answer completely broke Stephen Colbert’s heart, who reinforced this by taking off his glasses and covering his face in sadness. Being a big fan of these films, he asked Jennifer Lawrence to explain why she felt this way. Trying to make the host feel better, she told him that she loved the films, however, she could not tell him what specific plot detail happened in which movie.
“That’s fine. But what do you mean they are all the same movie?”asked Colbert, then telling her“Don’t apologize to me. Thank you so much for caring at all.”

These words seemed to only be deepening the feeling of offense in Colbert’s eyes, as the actress kept trying to make him feel better about a series that he adored and she was indifferent over. She even mentioned the name Bilbo Baggins to prove that she did, in fact, see the series at one point. This was to no avail, as Colbert told her that she did not need to apologize to him, thanking her for caring about this at all.
