Dev Patel shined with his latest action flickMonkey Man. The British actor has appeared in a few action movies before butMonkey Manhas taken the actor to a new height pushing his limit in the movie that revered the style of John Wick.

After watching the trailer of the movie, fans have associated the fight scenes resembling what we all have witnessed in theJohn Wickfranchise, in their stylistic approach anyway. Wild theories have formed surrounding the idea of influence from the Chad Stahelski movies. Patel discards them all.
Dev Patel AddressedJohn WickTheories SurroundingMonkey Man
Dev Patelis back in action with Monkey Man and the movie has received huge applause alongside a standing ovation from the audience after itsworld premiere at SXSW. Afterward, the actor, who also directed the action film addressed the wildtheories connecting John Wickto his movies.“I mean look I’m a huge fan of Chad Stahelski. I, you know, he’s been very kind to me. I love, I love John Wick,”Patel said (viaAustin American-Statesman)
“I think it’s the it’s the main touch sone to people in America for me, you know, I’m a huge fan of the franchise. But you know, this film is born from my love of, so much action cinema spanning from Bruce Lee to Sammo Hong to Jet Lee to Jackie Chan to the Korean cinema that totally changed my life. Uh and also Bollywood you know? And I think it’s kind of a, it’s a weird cocktail of all these things that I’ve kind of injected into this film. And I think it’s the only real touch point John Wick is for this kind of film you see a man in a suit and I’m like you got to watch Korean movies.”

Patel’s assertion of being the movie totally different fromJohn Wickseems plausible and the validation of it can be justified bythe standing ovationthe movie has received. The actor also made his directorial debut with the film with Jordan Peele in the mix producing the movie.
Dev Patel Explained His Injuries While FilmingMonkey Man
Jordan Peelesaved the movie with his production company Monkeypaw acquiring the rights to the film as it was almost dropped by Netflix. Patel also puts his body and soul into the screenplay he wrote alongside Paul Angunawela and John Collee. The immaculate story from the mind of Patel, however, required unique action sequences, and while filming one of the scenes the actor sustained several injuries.
“So, a couple weeks before we started shooting a stunt man stepped on my stamped on my foot and broke it so that was a bit of a problem uh but we got through that and carried on. Uh, then I tore my shoulder and then I broke my hand. Uh, but we carried on forming and, uh, it was a huge problem because to have your hand in a cast for the entire film, so, I got on a plane after filming the rest of the scene we put a screw in the hand,”Patel said (via, Austin American-Statesman).

Patel’s doctor warned him of what he was dealing with,“and the doctor’s like you cannot you know put any weight on it or anything,”he added.
“I was like okay okay and then, um, we carried on shooting. Uh, we had to change all of the choreo to like one-handed moves, um, which was very difficult but um, it was a real process of ferocity and just trying to trying to find a way to get it done.”

After the premiere,Monkey Manbecame a critical darling claiming a fresh 91% Rotten Tomatoes score. The movie also stars South African star Sharlto Copley alongside several Indian actors including Sobhita Dhulipala and Sikandar Kher.
Monkey Manis slated for theatrical release on July 10, 2025.
