One of these activities, The Coil, will require you to run through multiple fights again and again as the difficulty level increases each time you complete a run. However, Riven also rewards your dedication by offeringspecial buffseach time. Here is what all this is about.
Spend Shards On Buffs
The Coil is basically based on the same missions you have done in the Riven’s Lair activity, but there is a little catch. Before starting The Coil, you will finda jar in front of Riven’s spirit. If you break it, you will gain many shards. Now, if you interact with Riven’s vendor device, you will be able tospend those shards to buy a buff for yourself. Each player has 30 seconds before the beginning of the session to buy a buff.
Once done, the rest of the mission will proceed just like a Riven’s Lair activity. However,the entire Fireteam has a limited number of revives— 21.
If your Fireteam’s death tally combined reaches 21, a wipe will occur, which simplyputs an end to The Coil.
Break Jars For Shards
So, you randomly activate a portal, get inside, and complete the activity by killing the enemies and the final boss. However, there is also a small trick in those missions. Throughout the platforming areas of the activity, you will findjars of shards hidden in the corners. By breaking the jars, you will earn more shards. We strongly suggest you collect as many shards as you can, because thehigher-tier buffs require more shards, and the jar in front of Riven will always grant around 100 shards. So,you really want to collect the extra amount during the mission.
One last piece of advice about shards:prioritize killing Glass Collectors. Sometimes, when you enter a platforming area in The Coil, you will receive a message in the middle of the screen, telling you:“A Glass Collector Has Spawned.“The Glass Collector is a yellow-bar enemy, and you need to make sure to find and kill it at any cost before it leaves the arena.Defeating it will drop a large amount of shardsthat could buy you multiple buffs.
Secret Chests In The Coil
If youcollect enough shards during the platforming areas, you willopen up the doors to two secret cheststhat offer extra rewards in the same area. If youequip a high-level chest-detection mod for your Ghost,you can find those secret chests easily. But first, you need to reach a minimum score threshold to unlock the doors to the chests. These doors are hidden through sneaky pathways in the platforming area, but they are not that hard to find — especially when they are open and the chests can be detected by your Ghost.
Complete Four Loops For Maximum Rewards
Once you kill the final boss and loot the chest in your first run, you will return to Riven again to buy another buff. This time around, when you enter a portal, the difficulty level of the enemies will be increased by 5 levels. This loop will repeat again and again until you either run out of revive points and get wiped, or you complete all four runs. So, yes, it is not an endless loop.
The fourth run is the final run of The Coil, where enemies are 20 levels above your current Power Level.
Basically, you complete all three variants of Riven’s Lair, and you unlocka final boss, which you never see in Riven’s Lair. This boss is going to be quite strong, so make sure you are prepared.
We also suggest youbuy Revive Points from Rivenbefore this final round if you are low on revives.
Keep in mind thatyour score after the final round will determine the loot you receive. There will be three different reward thresholds based on your score.The highest threshold is Platinum, which throws you into a reward realm where you’re able to open up to four chests of the six available. And you already know that your score can go sky-high if you start hunting for shards from the get-go.
