Skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) has always been a controversial subject in the world of gaming, and it has now made its way over toDead By Daylight.

Behaviour Interactive announced on August 9th that a second SBMM test had been enabled on live servers. Here’s what that means for players and how it differs from the original SBMM test that took place a couple of months ago.

What Is Skill-Based Matchmaking? - SBMM Explained

Skill-based matchmaking is a system used by various competitive games, such asCall of Duty, to match players with opponents of a similar skill set.

The overall aim of SBMM is to create a fairer game for everyone to play. Introducing new players to an online, competitive title and placing them against completely random players that may have played for many months or years is essentially going to alienate the new player.

With SBMM it allows players to work their way up and compete against players of a similar skill set.

TheDead By Daylightdevelopers described SBMM as a “type of matchmaking that uses a hidden skill rating instead of ranks to create fairer matches. This rating increases when you do well and decreases when you do poorly”.

On August 9th, behaviour interactive announced that SBMM had been enabled inDead By Daylighton live servers.

This will be the second SBMM test that has taken place and the developers have stated that there will be some key differences from the last test.

Unlike the previous SBMM test, the developers are now using several months of data to calculate player ratings instead of a few weeks of data. This should mean better matchmaking overall.

Changes have also been made to the way players ratings are calculated when playing as a Killer for the first time, as well as some bug fixes with the overall system.

As for players' ranks, the developers have stated that nothing will change during the duration of the test. Aside from the fact that players ranks will no longer be shown after the match.
