She shared that her character was thrown into a life-or-death situation with Renner’s Aaron Cross by circumstance.

The tone is very realistic. I’m not playing a superhero, I don’t have superpowers. I don’t even have a gun. That’s really what I love about it, that as this type of film goes it’s not implausible at all.
At the time, she was also newly married toJames BondstarDaniel Craig. Her new husband may not have been entirely happy with Weisz’s praise for theBournefranchise. While Craig has no issues with another spy franchise competing withJames Bond, he may have foundMatt Damon‘s comments on his role distasteful.
Damon disapproves of the MI6 agent and has been vocal about his dislike for the character. According toThe Guardian, theGood Will Huntingactor shared about the long-running franchise:
[James Bond] is a misogynist, an imperialist, he’s all the things that Bourne isn’t. He kills people then drinks a Martini.
Damon further drew comparisons between the two spy franchises, sharing that they could“never make a James Bond movie like any of the Bourne films”(via Miami Herald). He once again called the character an“imperialist, misogynist sociopath.”He found the 007 agent to be repulsive.
However, Jason Bourne is not the perfect character either. WriterTony Gilroyand director Paul Greengrass hadissues duringThe Bourne Supremacyabout how they portrayed the character. Gilroy wanted to add scenes where Damon’s character showed repentance for his actions, while Greengrass removed those scenes from the film.

He really threw himself into it to such an intense degree. And then there was all the drinking he did, that wasn’t exactly conducive to a happy marriage.
