For an entire generation, Daniel Craig is synonymous with the role of the iconic super spy James Bond. Craig wrapped up his run with the character in 2021 to plenty of fanfare. He has since moved on to other projects, diversifying his filmography with some interesting choices, with the 2024 period romantic dramaQueerproving the most offbeat one for the actor.
During an interview, Craig opened up about playing a character created by famous author William S. Burroughs. At the same time, Craig talked about the film’s themes and why it would have been difficult for him to make such a movie when he was at the peak of his prowess as James Bond. More recently, Craig appeared in the period romance filmQueer, which isbased on William S. Burroughs’ novellaof the same name. Craig’s performance in the movie was appreciated, with the actor also earning a Best Actor nomination in the Motion Picture – Drama category.
In an interview withThe Times, Craig spoke about working on a film with LGBTQ+ themes and admitted that it would’ve been difficult for him to accept such a role during his time as Bond. Craig stated:
I couldn’t have done this while doing Bond. It would look reactionary like I was showing my range.
Craig explained that he had a certain image to carry while playing arguably one of the most iconic characters in fiction. At the same time, the workload also left him somewhat exhausted.

Craig made the above statement, suggesting that a project likeQueerhelped him explore a different side of masculinity. From the actor’s words, it is clear that Craig understands that the masculinity he portrayed as Bond is the opposite of the kind of character he portrayed inQueer.
