Apart fromGTA 5,Red Dead Redemption 2has to be the biggest launch of Rockstar Games. Serving as the prequel to 2010’sRed Dead Redemption, this game is set in the United States in 1899 and depicts the journey of Arthur Morgan.
Initially, the game was heavily criticized because of its poor graphical optimization. However, the developers were quick to fix all the persisting issues, and later on, it went on to build a huge player base. Still, the Rockstar Games co-founder was concerned about one aspect of the game.

You play as Arthur Morgan, a senior member of the Van der Linde gang, which is led by the“pseudo-messianic”Dutch, a group that was introduced in the first game. This is a Western drama-cum-tragedy. Dutch’s leadership, the Van der Linde outlaws, and the tale of how everything finally fell apart enthralled Rockstar. However, the co-founder of Rockstar Games, Dan Houser, was a bit worried about any repetition in the game’s story (viaGQ Magazine):
A lot of video games work on the same premise that you start as a weak person and end as a strong superhero. But what if you start as a tough guy? Someone who’s already very strong, someone that is emotionally confident of his place in the world. Arthur’s journey is not about becoming a superhero, because he’s almost one at the start, but is going to be taken on a more intellectual roller coaster when his worldview gets taken apart.
Despite all the concerns, the game went on to become one of the most realistic games the world had ever seen. Rockstar has dabbled with these illusions of life throughout its history. Even when you weren’t there, the in-game characters of Rockstar title characters had their own routines and seemed to exist there.

Red Dead Redemptionis finally coming to the PCafter 14 years, and it will launch tomorrow at a higher price than its five-year-old sequel on Steam. Until November 4,Red Dead Redemption 2is only $34.99, which is $15 less than a game from the Xbox 360 era. Since it’s the Ultimate Edition, it also includes a few story and multiplayer-related items.

However, it’s greedy for a game that only has the bare minimum of features that we would expect from a modern port, such as support for high refresh rates, HDR, DLSS, and ultrawide. Perhaps if it had appeared ten years earlier, it would have been more well-received.
