Until now, Homelander has been the only one to mimic Captain America’s righteous star-spangled banner routine, although in a diabolically psychopathic light. However, with the coming of a new age, it seems that Batman is also getting in on the game. DC is finally going toe-to-toe with Captain America himself with their own version: Commander Star.

Although the volume of DC comics of the last century or so has been a colorfully graded experience with delectable villains and incomparable heroes, it was high time that the audience of the newer generation of comic readers was introduced to something a bit more fresh. Commander Star performs that role with more than sufficient gusto in Batman’s all-new edition.
DC Finds a New Captain America-Inspired Hero
If DC has been aiming for a fresh start, a clean slate, then going back to the 1940s creation of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby for Marvel’sCaptain America Comics#1 may not have been such a great idea to begin with. But, for the realm of Batman, a star-spangled superhero may just be the perfect answer.
This new character may not yet be a fully ordained member of the Dark Knight bible but he is confirmed to be a central superhero in the Batman universe. Known asCommander Star, the IP was created and designed by Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jiménez and is set to debut in their issue ofBatman#153 which marks the commencement of anew storyline titledDying City.

“I felt this rockstar vibe suited him”: The Batman Director Based Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight on the Most Unlikeliest Icon That Was a Far Cry from Christian Bale
With promises of change and potential for more, Commander Star will possess a scent of familiarity due to his Marvel contemporary while also emanating a certain sense of imbalance with his rise as a superhero in Gotham. With each city already blessed with its own protector or guardian (Superman in Metropolis, Flash in Central City, Aquaman in Atlantis, and so on), it will be a somewhat interesting dynamic to witness Commander Star’s rise as a worthy rival and potential ally of Batman.
Chris Evans is Primed and Set for His Batman Debut
AlthoughChris Evans‘ job as a superhero may be far from done – as was proven by his latest MCU cameo inDeadpool & Wolverine– the actor may find some difficulty putting on the red, white, and blue suit for Marvel any time soon. On the other hand,James Gunn‘s budding DCU is the perfect breeding ground for new characters and diverse storylines.
TheGuardians of the Galaxydirector has always been known to bring the most eccentric, eclectic, and relatively anonymous ragtag bunch of characters into the limelight. With Zdarsky and Jiménez’s Commander Star, Gunn will have the perfect chance to experiment due to the lack of lore and comic book history associated with the character. Commander Star’s debut in DCU will represent unbound potential and countless possibilities for the franchise IP.

“Don’t start shooting until..”: James Gunn’s 6 Step Rule Could Have Saved Kevin Feige’s MCU Millions of Dollars With Captain America: Brave New World
With Chris Evans’ retirement from the Marvel business, the A-lister is primed to take up the mantle at DC. With Gunn’s approach toward building a more modern yet mature universe, Evans’ decade-long experience portraying Captain America mixed with the newness of wielding a sword and a cape might be the perfect recipe for his re-entry into the superhero universe.
TheDying Citystoryline beginning with the issuesBatman#153 and #154 will launch on October 2 and August 07, 2025, respectively.
