Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster will be coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime this summer. The remaster of the Baten Kaitos games was one of many games announced during Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct.

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean debuted in 2003 in Japan and came to the US in 2004. This lesser-known series of the now-famous Monolith Soft, now better known for its work withXenoblade Chronicles, came with a card-based battle system unique to the time. The story follows humanity trying to get by after its world was altered by an evil god known as Malpercio, who left the surface uninhabitable. The game received a prequel in 2006 called Baten Kaitos Origins, which takes place 20 years before the events of first game. Since the prequel’s release, the series has been dormant. There had been a third game in development at one point, but it was canceledafter Monolith was sold to Nintendo.

Remasters for these two cult classics could breathe some new life into the dormant series. The next title brings with it new additions, such as “turning off encounters, auto-battling, skipping cutscenes, and autosaving,” asIGN has reported. The series is also getting a much-needed facelift, giving the old areas and battles vibrant new colors and bringing it into the modern age. The new, polished look gives the older, bleaker colors a more approachable feeling.

The Xenoblade series brought with it an in-depth universe and strong cast of characters that many have fallen in love with. Baten Kaitos is no different, and with a large fanbase behind their games, Monolith can put a spotlight on a series it still wants to work on. Yasuyuki Honne, art director of the Baten Kaitos games, has expressed his desireto return to the series, and this is a perfect time to test the waters on that idea.

If you’re excited for these games to come out so you can try them yourself, you won’t have to wait long. Baten Kaitos 1 & 2 HD Remaster is set to release this summer.
