Quick Links
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33is certainly a unique kind of game. Part turn-based traditional RPG, part quick time event, and most impressively part French.
Since you probably already know how great it is, thanks to somerave reviews,we can get into some specifics about defeating some of the more difficult enemies in the game. These Chromatic enemies boast some of the greatest challenges in the game, but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

We’ll cover the Chromatic Greatsword Cultist here, but with so many Chromatic enemies, I can’t recommend enough that you check out other guides, since some of these fights can be incredibly annoying.
Alright, let’s take down this big sword-swinging dude and get those tasty rewards.

Where to Find The Chromatic Greatsword Cultist?
This candle-headed monstrosity can be found in Sirene just after taking one of the floating elevators. You’ll need to be in Act II, and you can take it on before the first Axon if you so choose, but I recommend avoiding it until you’ve taken out the first Axon.
The Chromatic Greatsword Cultist is located a good distance from the Expedition 67 flag. From that flag, follow the path until you see the large dancers outside the railing.

On your left, you should see a dark corridor that, if you go down, leads to a lower level. Keep following that path until you come across one of the moving platforms, and take it.
Once it gets where it’s going, turn left, and you should see that big ole candle-head just standing there.

How to Prepare For The Chromatic Greatsword Cultist Fight?
You’ll want to bring along some skills or weapons that do Dark Damage since the Chromatic Greatsword Cultist has a weakness to Dark Damage. Beyond that, you should try acquiring some Pictos that help you recover health or give you some bonus damage on counters and dodges.
If you’re able to use these on Monoco either as Pictos or Lumina, that would help end the fight much sooner when combined with his skill that lets him bypass shields.

Most of the attacks they’ll use will attack the entire expedition, meaning all of your members will take damage if you make a mistake. It also busts out a Curse, which can be a real problem if you’re unprepared to cleanse or revive your allies.
You should absolutely bring Monoco, or this fight will simply boil down to a war of attrition as you attempt to get rid of all the shields they have.If you haveanother setupcapable of dealing with many shields, this is the time and place for it.
Best Party Members
I brought around Verso, Sciel, and Monoco, which turned out to be a kind of cheese combination.Since Monoco can do loads of damage past shields with an attack, if you’re only going to bring one of these three, I would make it Monoco.
Sciel operates as my pseudo-healer, and Verso helps deal extra damage and supply the team with plenty of AP to sustain the damage. Regardless, I highly recommend keeping some way to let Monoco utilize his attack as often as possible, because it makes the fight a breeze.
Best Skills
As stated previously, your goal here is to pump Monoco and just let him go to town on the enemy with their shields up.Unless you have a way to get past all their shields, you’re going to have a difficult time with this one.
These are all the skills I had on my various characters, but as long as you have the two main ones for each, you should be set.

This ended up working well for me, but as long as you have a good way to reduce shields or bypass them, you should be fine.
Chromatic Greatsword Cultist Attack Breakdown
The Chromatic Greatsword Cultist only has two attacks, but she’ll almost always perform them back to back. Stay vigilant and dodge or parry at your discretion based on your plan to beat her.
For me, I often took some damage to avoid counter-attacking since that would limit the amount of damage Monoco’s attack could do.Having Sciel do most of her healing by abusing the Bad Omen and Grim Harvest made it easier to keep my team alive through most everything.
Chromatic Greatsword Cultist covers her sword in blood
The boss will stab herself, gaining shield, then proceed to swing twice, followed by a sweeping attack that requires a jump. Then she’ll swing three more times at the whole group.
Parry or Dodge (Jump required)
Chromatic Greatsword Cultist is about to jump
She stabs herself again, gaining shield, and then jumps into the air to slam down on a single party member.
Parry or Dodge
Each attack will take out a fat chunk of your health, so try to avoid any damage you’re able to and keep an eye on your party members' health since she constantly attacks the party. Whatever kind of plan you’re using will probably work fine, since the limited attacks make the move set easy to memorize.
If you’re struggling to parry or dodge, here’s a tip for both moves:

This guide explains how to beat Clair Obscur in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
How to Beat The Chromatic Greatsword Cultist Fight?
This was surprisingly not that difficult of a fight, but that may be because I found a bit of cheese to get through it.If you can survive all the attacks long enough, you can keep pumping Monoco with buffs from Sciel and Verso to constantly use Monoco’sChevaliere Piercingbypassing all the shields it makes.
By using that, you’ll get to deal a ton of damage as the shields continue to build up and increase your damage even more. You’ll need to survive as well, so I recommend trying to parry all the attacks to regain some health (if you have theHealing Parry) or dodge.
Getting the counter doesn’t help much since it builds up shields pretty quickly.Having a team member who can heal will help tremendously since it’ll help keep you in the fight and let Monoco do his crazy thing.
Keep trying to get the bonus from Agile Mask if you can, so you can chunk their health more with each attack, but if you need some help, check out this build guide, which should give you some help.
I may have been a bit underleveled, but as long as you’re stopping most of the incoming damage from the six-hit attack, you should be able to survive and do significant damage with Monoco’s attack.

Chromatic Greatsword Cultist Rewards
After beating the Chromatic Greatsword Cultist, you’ll receive the following rewards:
The weapon provided works well for Verso and makes other teammates' attacks do more damage. Along with that, you’ll get some serious XP and Chroma, plus a couple of upgrade materials to help level your weapons up past level 10.
Since you pass the Chromatic Greatsword Cultist on your way to the objective anyway, it’s worth stopping off for some extra XP and upgrade materials, even if you’re not interested in the weapon. There are lots of otherChromatic enemiesout there that drop some pretty great loot, so don’t be afraid to go out and find them!
