Square Enixhas announced thatChrono Cross: The Radical Dreamerswill receive its first major update this month. It will bring a wide range of changes, including frame rate improvements, fixes for performance issues, and changes to the growth system for Pip. No particular release date for the update has been announced at the moment.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers has not received an update since its initial launch in April 2022. It received a mixed reception upon its launch, with players saying it had trouble with maintaining a steady frame rate. The Steam port of Chrono Cross was also criticized by players due to Square Enix not addressing other issues like VRAM error, the quality of emulation, and broken controls.

The update will also adjust Pip’s evolutions, which allow players to send the character down different paths for buffs. Pip is an optional character that can be added to the party by visiting Viper Manor. Players can trigger its dark side evolution with black, yellow, and red elements to make Pip a physical DPS character. It also has another evolutionary path, called Holy, which can be activated with blue, green, and white elements for stronger magical attacks. Although the announcement doesn’t provide further details for changes, Pip will probably receive a new evolutionary path that gives various buffs.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers is the remastered version of the classic JRPG Chrono Cross, which features upgraded 3D models and illustrations. It follows the protagonist Serge as he sets off on a new adventure to save himself from dying in a parallel universe. The game added new character illustrations, the ability to switch enemy encounters on or off, plus the auto-battle and background filter features. Additionally, players can switch between the new and old versions of character models.

The story of 1996’s Radical Dreamers has become the basis for the remaster in an audio novel format. Featuring over 40 party members to meet, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers utilizes a turn-based battle system that requires players to adapt their style each time they encounter a new enemy.
