Elden Ringtook the gaming industry by storm and was a game celebrated by players and reviewers alike. The game took the SoulsBorne formula and applied it to a grand open-world game with one of the most in-depth world-building works, thanks to FromSoftware’s collaboration with George R.R. Martin.

An Elden Ring fan posted something on the game’s subreddit and sparked a lot of courage.

The game also introduced a few mechanics for newcomers to the SoulsBorne genre and FromSoftware games in general. It had mechanics, making it much more accessible than traditionalDark Soulsgames. Because of this, novices to the subgenre are advised to begin their journey withElden Ring. On the contrary, some SoulsBorne enthusiasts feel that the game was created for players who couldn’t come to terms with the originalDark Soulsgames.

One such player posted this opinion on the game’s subreddit and received a lot of flak.

Elden Ring is one of the best titles released in the current decade.

A Bitter Fan Dismisses Elden Ring as a Title for Players Who Handle the Original Dark Souls

A player going byEmbarrased_Sky_9218posted on the game’s official subreddit and had this to say that sparked much outrage from fans. The post currently has zero upvotes, and it makes sense why fans would dislike an opinion putting down players who didn’t play theSoulsgames.

This is what the post says:

Elden ring is for beta people who can’t get past asylum demon in dark souls 1 change my mind.

The usage of genuinely bitter terms, usually found in an Instagram comment section for a reel appealing to juveniles, was bound to experience a lot of blowback, and it did. Players were visibly unimpressed with the post, and they let it rip in the comment section below.

Some comments highlighted the user’s juvenile behavior and illogical reasoning:

Change your diaper first.

Some people also highlighted that this wasn’t news and that the user should have used the correct tag. Also, the poster should attempt to justify why they feel so. Blatantly calling a particular set of gamers“beta”is not indicative of maturity. People also stated that the reason people hate the game is that it is widespread. Popularity always opens up more avenues for criticism than underrated or less popular games.

Some people also stated that this is a joke or an attempt to troll the game. Some people tried to offer a reasonable explanation for whyDark Soulswasn’t as popular and why people directly skipped toElden Ring:

…or in some cases just don’t enjoy Dark Souls. I really didn’t enjoy the Demon’s Souls Remake either. Elden Ring takes the best parts from the previous games and rejects the nonsense, making Elden Ring objectively a better game. Or were you simply trolling?

Others were not amused and wanted to take digs at the original post author for trying to farm engagement and spread unnecessary negative emotion in the subreddit.

Why Elden Ring Was Made More Accessible Than Dark Souls

Even the series director, Miyazaki-san, talked about the game’s difficulty in aninterview. In the interview, the director stated that, if talked about strictly as an action game, the game is much more forgiving than a traditionalDark Soulsgame.

Not to mention, the difficulty is subjective. In the post made by the Redditor that was subject to a lot of criticism, some players also mentioned that they foundDark Soulsmuch easier thanElden Ring. The difference in difficulty, however, is very tangible between the two games. That is because the game is in a different genre as well.

It allows players to flee a losing battle, use spirit summons, and call companions to their aid in defeating challenging bosses. Despite petty attempts to hate a game that has taken the entire industry by storm, it shows no signs of stopping, especially withShadow of the Erdtree‘s imminent launch.

Did you playElden Ring? If yes, which boss battle did you find the most difficult? Let us know in the comment section below.
