With a new trailer dropping during the Super Bowl, MCU fans are hyped for what’s in store forThunderbolts*, the upcoming film set to introduce Robert “Bob” Reynolds / Sentry. In the film, a team comprising Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier will face off against Sentry as teased by the new trailer.

While the trailer generated plenty of hype online, some fans quickly caught on to one scary moment that foreshadows a dark fate for the Winter Solider. The trailer teased Bucky fighting Sentry one-on-one with things not going in his favor. As a result, fans are worried about Bucky’s fate, and if comic books are any evidence his chances of survival are slim.
Thunderbolts*Super Bowl trailer brings bad news for Winter Soldier fans
Amidst the upcoming release ofCaptain America 4next week and the recent launch ofThe Fantastic Fourtrailer, theThunderbolts*movie seems to bea bit of a dark horse in MCU’s recent slate. However, the film’s Super Bowl trailer (which you’re able to check outhere) garnered plenty of attention and revealed a good look atLewis Pullmanas Robert “Bob” Reynolds / Sentry.
Moreover, the trailer suggests that the film will remain true to Sentry’s insane power level from the comic books, with the team assembled bySebastian Stan‘s Bucky Barners / Winter Soldier struggling to contain the threat of what appears to be Sentry’s Void persona.

In the trailer, Bucky also fights Sentry at one point with his Vibranium arm being easily dislocated by the latter. A brief shot that follows shows Sentry flinging the Red Guardian in the air without much effort. As a result, the shot underlines the power difference between Sentry and the titular team, comprising three super soldiers including John Walker.
Winter Soldier might not survive a fight with Sentry inThunderbolts*
The Super Bowl trailer asks whether the Winter Soldier can survive being punched by the Sentry. While both characters get their powers from the same super soldier serum that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America, the Sentry’s version is much stronger and more potent.
As a result, Sentry is stated to have the power of a million exploding suns in the comics. The comics have also presented an alternate timeline (Earth 2119) where Sentry’s Void persona loses control and decapitates Captain America before killing offBucky Barnes / Winter Soldier. Therefore, it is safe to say that Bucky does not stand much of a chance in a one-on-one battle.

The film’s trailer also addresses the stark difference in power levels between the Thunderbolts and Sentry. Yelena notes that none of them can fly, and most of them have the same powers. Bucky, Red Guardian, and John Walker are essentially super soldiers, and the comics prove they are no match for the Void.
Florence Pugh’s Salary for Marvel’s Thunderbolts Is No Small Feat
Meanwhile, insider reports have hinted that Bucky will be killed off in the movie (viaReddit). Therefore, things appear bleak for the Winter Soldier, and the Super Bowl trailer seems to foreshadow his imminent death. Ultimately, Sentry is too strong for even the likes of Hulk and Captain America. As a result, while Bucky might survive a punch from Sentry, he might not make it out of a one-on-one fight.
Thunderbolts*is scheduled to be released on July 31, 2025.
