Augment Research is an add-on to the regular Augments system, which allows you to upgrade and customize your perks, ammo mods, and Field Upgrades.
To gain access to new and specific upgrades, you need to participate in Augment Research.

What are Augments inBlack Ops 6Zombies?
Before we get into the nitty-gritty mechanics of Augment Research, it’s crucial that you fully understand whatregular Augments are in Zombies.
Augments can be accessed by going to the Zombies mode inBlack Ops 6, selecting the “Weapons” tab at the top of the screen, and then pressing “Augments.”
Here, you can equip Augments on every perk, ammo mod, and Field Upgrade. You can also access the Augment Research screen.
By going to the “Equip Augments” menu, you’re able to scroll through theperks, ammo mods, and Field Upgrades tabs.
Every item on the tabs can be equipped with a Major and Minor Augment. The Major Augments are marked with a blue diamond while the Minor Augments are indicated by an orange circle.

Both major and minor Augmentations have three options, which can only be unlocked after you research each specific one. The Major Augments are generally stronger than Minor Augments, but both categories have strong Augments that drastically improve the performance of items.
For example, the Stamin-Up perk features a major augmentation that prevents fall damage, and a minor augmentation that allows you to use equipment while sprinting. Both are incredibly useful bonuses and can be used effectively in conjunction with one another.
Eventually, you’ll want to unlock and use a Major and Minor Augment for every perk, ammo mod, and Field Upgrade inBlack Ops 6Zombies.
However, to get to that point, you’ll have to grind a ton of Zombies and use the Augment Research system to its fullest potential.
How to Use Augment Research inBlack Ops 6Zombies
You unlock the Augment Research system at level 15 inBlack Ops 6, which applies regardless ofwhat prestige you’re on.
At level 15, you may begin researching a specific Augment for a perk, ammo mod, or Field Upgrade. You’re only allowed to research one Major or Minor Augment at a time.
This means you’re unable to research a Major Augment for a perk and a Minor Augment for an ammo mod at the same time. You need to pick one and proceed with the unlock process.
Every Augment needs to be activated individually before the research can begin. After an Augment is activated, you may complete Augment Research by simply playing Zombies andearning XP. At the start of Augment Research, you can only research one perk, ammo mod, and Field Upgrade.
After you unlock the first Augment for a specific item, the second Augment for that item becomes available for research. There are six Augments per item (three Major and three Minor), and you can track the progress of each item by hovering over it in the menu.
More and more items will become available to research as you unlock more Augments. For example, the Speed Cola perk Augments can’t be researched until you unlock 12 total Augments in Zombies. After that threshold is crossed, you can begin the research process for the first Speed Cola Augment.
Essentially, you have to grind hours and hours of Zombies just to unlock Augment Research for individual items.
Then, it takes even more time to unlock all six Augments for each individual item. This is quite the grind alongside unlocking the Mastery Camo in Zombies, but the two can be done simultaneously.
