Larson begins the video by admitting that she has never done a play before which is why she is finding the process to be quite“interesting.”From a stage that turns to simple lighting cues, the team is doing all it can to do justice to the play.

As per Larson, the play does a much-needed job of challenging viewers’ perceptions of what makes them uncomfortable as well as the violence in their lives. She said,
It’s not the same thing as going to see some big glittery musical. I think this is a show that’s about challenging our perceptions and thinking about what makes us uncomfortable and what kind of violence exists in our life and how we can stop it. Is there a way to stop it?

Larson leaves her viewers with a thought-provoking question, one which continues to linger long after the curtain falls. But she doesn’t stop there.
Brie Larson dissects the play’s empowerment
The best part about a play likeElektrais that it simply cannot be unforgettable. Everything you see stays with you for a long time, making you question everything you know about life.
In her video, she goes on to talk about how the play shines a light on what it is like being a woman who refuses to let her selfhood go. A woman who understands how important it is to hold onto pain until she is ready to move on.

From speaking loudly and being bold to shaving her head, Larson comments on how playing Elektra has been absolutely empowering. She said,
Also, just seeing a woman on stage, refusing to step away from her selfhood, refusing to let go of her pain until it’s ready to let go of, her speaking loudly, being bold, being angry, shaving her head, spitting…it’s been very empowering to explore what it means to stand on a stage and say to a group of 650 people every night, ‘Listen to me, what I have to say is worth hearing even if it makes you uncomfortable.’

Amen to that!
Larson’s words perfectly encapsulate the raw, unfiltered power of her character and a story that refuses to be diluted for comfort. Head over to the Duke of York’s Theatre in London if you too want to catch a glimpse of the actress in the powerful role.
