The show brilliantly showcases a group of misfits-turned-party members who travel various dungeon layers while overcoming monsters and otherworldly creatures.

The highlight of the show is how it cooksthese brilliantly designed dishes,some of which are just plain comfort food and some so luxuriousthat they’d easily earn a couple of Michelin Stars in real life.
In this list, I’ve ranked 10 of my personal favorite dishes in the show based on their story significance and the way the party’s chef, Senshi, cooks them for his comrades.
10Barometz Balut
Trust Building Dish
Izutsumi is introduced quite late in the story, and she is quite distrustful of her party members.
However, Senshi manages to win her trust by cooking the Barometz Balut, a dish that is really similar to Lamb Chops.The Barometz fruit is sliced to reveal a sheep inside, and Senshi takes cuts from the sheep’s ribs and grills them.
While the ribs are cooking, Senshi prepares a sauce from the fruit itself. The cooked ribs are topped off with the sauce, and the final product blows Izutsumi’s expectations out of the water.
The dish itself is very simple, but the anime manages to convey the message that a person’s feelings can be portrayed through what they cook.And that is exactly what happens between Senshi and Izutsumi during this whole scene.
9Ice Golem Savory Egg Custard
Battling The Cold
Savory Egg Custard is a popular dish in Japan,and Senshi creates it using the ingredients found inside the Ice Golem.
The whole party is freezing after the fight with the golem, and Senshi’s goal is to warm them up with his dish. What I love about this entire section is that the dish not only manages to warm up the bodies of our adventurers but also their hearts as it brings them closer to each other.
A broth is made using the fish found inside the golem and then the custard is made by using a harpy egg, nightmares, mushrooms, shapeshifter meat, and mandrake leaves.
Senshi also manages to teach Izutsumi some table manners while serving the dish,saying that everyone should be present at the table before she can start eating.
The scene ends with Chilchuck apologizing to Izutsumi for calling her a monster, which is so wholesome that it also warms the viewer’s heart.
8Roast Basilisk
Stuffed Greatness
This is one of the earliest dishes that Senshi cooks in the anime, andI just had to put it on the list because the Roasted Basilisk reminds me so much of the Thanksgiving Day Turkey.
Once Senshi is done with chopping off the tail and the feet and plucking off the feathers, the Basilisk starts looking a lot like a cooked turkey.
Then comes the stuffing, which is done with medicinal herbs because the Basilisk meat is actually used to cure another poisoned adventurer.
The cooking process is different from that of Turkey as the Basilisk is roasted over fire, which is a slow process.As always, Senshi’s cooking does not disappoint, and everybody enjoys the food.

7Mandrake Kakiage And Giant Bat Tempura
Dungeon Fried Bat
The making of the Mandrake Kakiage and Giant Bat Tempura in Dungeon Meshi demonstrates the teamwork of Senshi and Chilchuck.
Chilchuck captures a Giant Bat and cuts the body into smaller pieces. Senshi then skins the thick layer and cuts the meat into even smaller portions. He then seasons the meat and creates a batter using the Basilisk egg, flour, and the Mandrake Kakiage.
While Senshi is preparing the bat meat for frying, Chilchuck starts a fire and heats up the oil, signifying the teamwork between the two characters.
Chilchuck initially fails to get a perfectly fried Giant Bat Tempura but, after a few attempts and with the help of Senshi, makes the most savory Giant Bat Tempura that the whole party enjoys.
6Stone-Baked Cockatrice and Egg Ankake
A Dish For Everyone
Cockatrice is one of my favorite monster designs in the anime as it is a fusion of a chicken and a snake with the snake acting like a tail.
This specific Cockatrice dish that Senshi cooks up in episode 16 is quite complex. Because to make it, they require a monster’s meat and a Cockatrice egg.
The cooking process involves grinding and frying the meat with ingredients like the Dryad and Mandrake fruits.
This meat is then placed on top of cooked barley inside a brick with a hole in it. Lastly, the brick is baked, and the whole dish inside is topped off with the Cockatrice egg that Senshi cooks in a pan at the end.
Contrary to other dishes on my list, not even Marcille and Chilchuck question the ingredients used and enjoy the dish in all its glory.
5Living Armor Full Course Meal
Knight In Shining Plate
The Golden Knight that Laios and his party fight inside the dungeon is actually controlled by mollusks present inside the armor.
These mollusks can be cooked in various ways to create unique dishes, which Senshi does. He uses these mollusks and cooks up a Stir-Fry and a Soup.
Senshi even steams the headpiece of the armor and grills the other parts, which contain mollusks.
When it comes to trying out the final products, everybody but Laios seems skeptical and scared,even though Senshi has added antidotal and medicinal herbs to his recipes.
However, once Laios takes a bite out of the Grilled Living Armor and loves the taste, it puts everyone else at ease. The knight in shining armor becomes a full-course meal for our party.

4Nightmares Steamed In Sake
Cooking Dreams
Nightmares are actually monsters that hide inside pillows and cause the user who sleeps on such a pillow to have a bad dream.
Marcille is the unfortunate character who gets caught in the trap of the Nightmares but eventually wakes up. Laios quickly realizes that her pillow is filled with these monsters, and he and Senshi decide to cook them out of curiosity.
The Nightmares are first cleaned in hot water and then seasoned with sake, butter, and soy sauce for flavor.As always, the weirdest ingredients are turned into something extremely appetizing.
What really took me by surprise was that during the cooking process, the steam from the dish visualized Marcille’s dream when her pillow was infested with Nightmares.
3Exorcism Sorbet
An Ice-Cold Surprise
The Exorcism Sorbet is accidentally created by the group when they are trying to ward off ghosts using the special holy water in a jar that was previously created by Senshi.
Initially, Senshi alone steps up to face the ghosts, but then Laios takes the lead and grabs the jar from Senshi.
In a rush of adrenaline and pumped by the fact that he has to conquer the dungeon with his own strength,Laios manages to ward off all the ghosts using holy water.In the end, Senshi notices that the jar has frozen, turning the holy water into a dish.
To everyone’s surprise, the ghosts had chilled the holy water and turned it into a sweet, cold dish, which is quite similar to ice-cream in the normal world. Marcille and Chilchuck were hesitant to try out the dish at first, but they ended up loving the taste.
2Red Dragon Meal
The Most Memorable Buffet
Slaying the Red Dragon was a feast for our party as Senshi was able to cook three different dishes from the dragon’s meat in Delicious in Dungeon.
Firstly, he prepares the pizza bread using dough, onions, and cheese. Then the pizza is placed inside the Dragon, which is still burning, and Senshi creatively uses that to substitute for a fire source.
Senshi also prepares the Dragon Tail Soup as the pizza cooks by skinning a part of the dragon’s tail and then placing it inside boiling water garnished with onions and turnips.
Now comes the main course, for which Senshi sears the dragon’s meat on heated scales, and the meat becomes roasted almost like a steak.All three dishes are combined to create a buffet for everyone to enjoy.
1Hippogriff Soup
Trauma Dispelling Flavors
This is a pretty simple dish, but what makes it great in the story is the emotional background attached to the recipe.
The dish is quite straightforward to create, as it only requires boiling water to cook the meat and salt for seasoning. Laios first uses the Changeling Mushrooms to convert the Griffin meat into Hippogriff meat.
Senshi’s trauma from his past stems from the fact that to survive in the dungeon;he was forced to eat the soup made from the meat of his crewmate instead of the Hippogriff meat, which was offered to him by his only surviving partner.
However, after drinking the soup that Laios makes, Senshi is left with tears of happiness. The taste removes all his worries of potentially being a cannibal from his heart, allowing him to continue his adventure in the dungeon without any further stress.
