Ben Stiller just took a trip down memory lane, and he brought Tom Cruise’sMission: Impossiblemadness with him. The comedy icon cracked a joke about Cruise’s death-defying stunt, and it had seriousTropic Thunderenergy. Fans instantly remembered Stiller’s legendaryMTV Movie Awardsskit, where he played Cruise’s “stunt double” with zero actual skills.

Now, with Cruise once again risking life and limb forMission: Impossible 8, Stiller couldn’t resist poking fun. Because really, what’s a Tom Cruise stunt without a little comedy on the side? It’smission…hilariously possible.
Ben Stiller revives ‘Tom Crooze’ as Tom Cruise defies gravity — again
Ben Stillercouldn’t resist. The momentTom Cruiseunveiled his latestMission: Impossible 8stunt— dangling from a biplane like gravity is just a suggestion — Stiller fired off a Twitter gem:“Putting Tom Crooze out of business.”If that sounds oddly familiar, it’s because Stiller’s been parodying Cruise’s daredevil antics for over two decades.

Flashback to the 2000MTV Movie Awards.Stiller starred inMission: Improbable, playing Tom Crooze, a self-proclaimed “stunt double” with zero actual skill. He tried (and failed) to match Cruise’s high-flying heroics inMission: Impossible 2, even exaggerating the need for a stuntman in non-action flicks likeRisky Business. The real Cruise was stone-faced but clearly amused.
That parody almost didn’t happen. Cruise had limited availability, and Stiller was on his honeymoon with Christine Taylor. But when MTV came knocking, Stiller literally cut his honeymoon short, flew back, and made comedy gold. The skit’s best moment was Cruise and Stiller riffing so naturally that they cracked up mid-scene.

Fast-forward to today, andCruise is still out here redefining“insane stunt.” This time, he’s flipping upside-down on a biplane forMission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The 62-year-old’s death-defying act is set to feature in the next trailer, possibly dropping during Super Bowl LIX. Also, who are you folks supporting: the Eagles or the Chiefs? (can’t wait for KC to three-peat, though).

As for whether this is Cruise’s last ride? Heplayed coy:“You gotta see the movie.”Director Christopher McQuarrie teased that the film will bring Cruise’s 30-year Ethan Hunt journey full circle.
Either way, one thing’s certain: Stiller’s Tom Crooze may be a joke, but the real Cruise is still out here doing the impossible.
