Scratch is an innocent four-legged companion that you’re able to add to your camp. If you love having a dog around, you would want to take advantage of petting the cute-looking dog in the game.
Where To Find Scratch The Dog
You can find Scratch in thejungles just northeast of the Blighted Village or south of the Owlbear Nest. When you meet him for the first time, you will notice that he is guarding a dead body — his former owner, Gomwick. However, Scratch doesn’t know that his owner is deceased and thinks he is injured and resting. For this reason,he will not join you immediately. But if you do everything right, he will come to your camp a few nights later.
If you haven’t petted Scratch yet, he will not let you near his master’s body and willconsider you a threat. If you have a party member withAnimal Handling or Perception skills, it will be much easier for you to pet Scratch.

During all the dialogue choices, you will need to choose all the positiveresponses that won’t upset Scratch. After a few dialogue choices, you can let him smell you so that he remembers your scent and so he can join you in your camp later.Animal Handling, Perception, Intimidation, or Persuasion checksare all viable options here.
Make sure to save your game before interacting with Scratch. One failed skill check can make Scratch upset.

Example dialogue sequence with Perception:
As said earlier, Scratch will not immediately join you, as he still thinks his master will wake up. However, after you haveseveral long restsunder your belt, Scratch will eventually find his way to your camp. If Scratch arrives, you will be able to pet him.

How To Play Fetch With Scratch
When Scratch is in your camp, you canpet or play fetch with him. Make sure you pet him every time you head back to the camp. Once you pet him enough, he will start to like you. After some time, Scratch will appear with a ball in his mouth. If you can pass aStrength, Sleight of Hand, or Animal Handling skill check, you can take the ball from him. To play fetch, throw the ball in any direction. Scratch will then run to fetch the ball and bring it back to you. Playing fetch with Scratch for the first time will unlock the“Fetch Quest” achievement.
Apart from playing, Scratch sometimes brings random items to the camp in a pouch. After passing the Strength check, you’re able to collect the items from Scratch’s mouth. You can also increasecompanion approvalof certain companions who will appreciate you for loving an animal each time you pet Scratch.
