The epilogue toBaldur’s Gate 3, released in late November as part of the Patch 5 update, gives playersa little more closureto one of the greatest RPG stories to come out in a long time. Set six months after the climactic endgame battle with The Netherbrain, the closing story brings together all the surviving heroes — or at least messages from those no longer on this plane of existence — to catch each other up on what they’ve been doing for the past half a year, providing a little more lore building into the game’s ending.

However, as one player recently recounted on Reddit, it is possible for Tav (or whichever other character you’re playing) to die during the big reunion party from lingering damage effects that they had suffered in the climactic battle, even though that battle canonically took place six months prior.

I’m Glad To See Baldur’s Gate 3 Say ‘No’ To Game Pass

Game Pass is a great service, but that doesn’t mean we should want it as a one-stop shop for all games.

Posting on the official Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, user Boomsta22 recounted the tale, saying that at the end of the final battle, Gale was suffering from heat damage, an effect that was still affecting him during the epilogue banquet. However, the player character had been sharing that damage through use of the Warding Bond spell and unable to perform any sort of self healing. “Gale is taking 3 damage and I’m taking 1 damage every 4 seconds, but he heals,” the player said. “He out-lives me as a result and I die while everyone else watches… I can’t remove Warding Bond. I can’t end heat by dousing him with water. I’m dying and off life support. I am fated to die and can only count the seconds before it happens again.”

The post was labeled under the “Bug” heading, yet the player still humorously asked ifLarian Studioswould make dying during the epilogue into an achievement (which doesn’t seem impossible, given Larian’s track record for bothlistening to its players' wishesand poking fun at itself in patch notes.)

To be fair, we haven’t tried to replicate this accidental death for ourselves, so we’ll just have to take the player’s word on it for now, but it may want to make players think twice before dabbling in Abjuratioin spells or magic rings so close to endgame.
