For a long time inBaldur’s Gate 3, one of the harder choices players had to make was choosing between recruitingMintharaorrecruiting Halsin. Both characters had no ‘legit’ way of being recruited in a single run, forcing players to resort to looking for extremely niche exploits in order to recruit both.

How to Recruit Minthara As A Good Character

There is one main way to recruit Minthara without resorting to killing all the Druids in Emerald Grove as of Patch 5:Knock her out in theGoblin Campwithout talking to her, and she’ll appear in the throne room inMoonrise Towersduring Act 2being interrogated by General Ketheric Thorm and Z’rell. From there, the method of recruiting Minthara is the same as ever. Find her in the underground prison and release her to recruit her to your party.

To avoid complications, don’t talk to her, as this triggers her quest to kill the druids, whichmightresult in her not appearing in Moonrise Towers in Act 2.

How to Knock Out Minthara

To recruit Minthara with this method, you’ll need to useNon-Lethal Attacksto reduce her HP to zero. Non-Lethal attacks can be turned on by clicking on thePassivesbutton on your hotbar and then clicking on the ‘Non-Lethal Attack’ icon. You’ll see who in your party has non-lethal attacks toggled on by theindicator next to the portrait.

When this setting is on, if you drop an enemy’s health to zero using a melee attack, they don’t die but enter theKnocked Out status, essentially becoming unconscious.Magic doesnotwork with Non-Lethal attacks, only melee attacks.Using magic to deal damage to Minthara when her health is low will directly kill her if her health falls to zero. The safest bet is to make all your characters switch to melee weapons with Non-Lethal attack turned on and have them take out Minthara. Or, only have your Spellcasters cast buffing/healing spells on allies.

The most important part of the entire process is that Minthara gets the’Temporarily Hostile’status before you knock her out. If you don’t see the status, she won’t be recruitable.

If done correctly, she’ll be knocked out instead of dead, completing the related quest for Zevlor while still keeping her alive.Progress through the game until you reach Moonrise Towers in Act 2, and you should find her in the main room.

If Minthara’s story ever reaches the point where she sets up an attack on the Tiefling Camp to wipe them out, she cannot be recruited unless you side with her. Knocking her out here doesn’t result in her appearance at Moonrise Towers during Act 2.

There are some reports that players need to steal something right in front of her to make her temporarily hostilebeforeknocking her out. While this method does work, it’s just adding extra steps that are not needed as of Patch 5.
