Preparing For Raphael’s Boss Fight
This is a fight to break out all the special tools you’ve been holding back.Brew Elixirsof Universal Resistance and the largest healing potions you’re able to.Coat your weaponsin Crawler Mucus, or any other potent poisons that might work. Haste Spore grenades are a good investment; just be aware enemies can benefit from them as well.
verify all you martial party members have their best magic weapons equipped. As for spells,Hold Monster is a very good choice for priority targets. The best choice is the Confuse spell. you’re able to target an area of enemies and can cause them to miss their turns or attack each other.
Before you start the fight, be sure touse the restoration pool in Raphael’s room. Use whatever spell prep you need, then you’re able to use the pool to restore all spent spell slots. Last of all,rescue Hope; she’s a big help.
Examining Raphael

When fighting Raphael and his minions,do not use radiant damage. Radiant damage is the worst kind of damage you’re able to inflict, not because the enemies have resistance, but because they take full radiant damage, double it, and send it back at you as fire damage. You can have your party members down themselves, and you need to avoid that. If Raphael lowers one of your party members to zero, they instantly die fromsoul severance.
Aside from his ability to punish divinity, Raphaelresists most forms of elemental damageand non-magical physical damage. The latter isn’t a big deal — you should have plenty of magic weapons by now — butacid damage is a good choice to attack Raphael and his minions.
When casting magic, remember Devils have magic resistance, butRaphael’s Wisdom save is actually low.
How To Defeat Raphael
When the fight begins, you have two essential tasks to keep you from dying too soon.
Destroy The Soul Pillars
The Soul Pillars are those four infernal obelisks in the corners of Raphael’s arena. These obelisk power Raphael just by being nearby, and he can draw souls from them to unleash powerful spells. You need to destroy them fast.
Raphael’s defensive buffs are linked to these pillars.Destroying them makes him easier to hitand temporarily prevents him from casting powerful spells. The pillars are vulnerable to bludgeoning and force damage. If you still have the runepowder bomb, you should use it here, but don’t get caught in the blast. The radius is roughly 15 meters. If you’ve already used the big bomb, other smokepowder bombs are still helpful here.
Destroying the pillars does have a drawback, though. A few turns after a pillar’s destruction, Raphael will transform into an archfiend. While temporary, this form lets him cast his strongest spells, and he can’t be stopped by destroying another pillar. It’s best todestroy all pillars at once.

Kill His Minions First, Then Focus On Raphael
While Raphael is unable to cast spells, deal with all of his allies throughpowerful AoE spellswith your casters as your martial warriors clean up the ones on low hp. Have Hope and your own healer alwayskeep your health as high as possible. Drink as many potions as you need to stay above 0. Keep your party close to Hope, so if things are looking bad, you can use herDivine Interventionto give everyone near the effect of a long rest.
By himself, Raphael is strong, but he’s only one devil. Without his soul pillars and assistants, he can’t outdo your damage output and recovery. This fight can turn against you quickly with just one bad round, but with superior tactics, you will always have the upper hand.
