Balatro, one of2024’s best games, continues to see sustained success. After earning several nominations for year-end awards,including Game of the Year at the TGAs, the game’s mobile version has seen a spike in sales.
After making $1 million in its first week of mobile release in September, the title has nowsurpassed $4 million in revenue. This comes after a lull in sales following its mobile release. After a peak at the end of September,Balatromobile sales declined for six straight weeks before seeing a rise earlier this month, undoubtedly due to Game of the Year buzz. There has also been an ad push on social media feeds for the game.

The game is available for $9.99 in mobile app stores. Developer LocalThunk confirmed thatBalatrowill never include in-app purchases. “Once you pay money for the app, it will have identical content to the Steam/console version of the game for the lifetime of the game,” the developer said on the Balatro subreddit. No version of Balatro mobile will ever have in-game ads, either."
The team at LocalThunk is also planning on making a free version of the app that’s more akin to a demo rather than a freemium game bogged down with microtransactions. It will include the ability to purchase the full version of the game, which is why some app stores are giving it the “in-app purchase” flag on store pages.
