Baki Hanma vs Kengan Ashurawas one of the most anticipated collaborations, bringing in together ecstatic fights that would have settled the scores once and for all. The series had been creating hype much before its premiere, seeing how it brought together two worlds of martial artists who were known to be the best.

It featured the fights of not only Baki and Ohma but also other integral fighters of their respective animes. Moreover, it had the feeling of a crossover with the excitement of an oncoming battle. WhileBaki Hanma’sseries has long since finished with the protagonist reaching his fullest potential, however, the same is not the case for Ohma Tokita, who is yet to understand his own best potential.

Bound by Time, Baki Hanma vs Kengan Ashura Lacks Elaboration

BothBaki HanmaandKengan Ashurahave their own ways of shining out as animes. They are both separate in anime styles, fighting styles, and story telling. Mixing all that into one, through TMS Entertainment’s work andBaki Hanma’sanimation style; a movie of barely over an hour in duration gets forms.

For the many fights it features, alongside the need to set up a base and a story for the same, there are many places in which the collaboration also lacked foundation. That is not to say the film in itself was a disappointment, but it is to be acknowledged that there was much that could have been done that was instead left untouched.

None of these characters are by any means new. So to speak, for those who aren’t straight away jumping into the collaborative movie, each and every character has already been set up previously. So for them to be reintroduced and retouched would be considered a waste of time.

The Eternal Mistake

Anime episodes are usually over 20 minutes to half an hour in duration. In special cases, they may be shorter or much longer, but the average remains the same. Putting that into consideration,Baki Hanma vs Kengan Ashurawould be about 3 episodes in length. However, with the story it is trying to set up, that seemed to be too short in length.

There is a constant need to include elements of both the shows whether it is about the fights, the backstories, or the comedic aspects. The very need to include it all makes a compact yet jumbled box of chaos. While the movie isn’t chaotic in nature, it could have been much better with a different format.

HadBaki Hanma vs Kengan Ashurabeen made into a series rather than a movie, the time needed to elaborate on each and every fight alongside the little things wouldn’t have looked so forced. It is an homage to both the shows but it lacks in many ways including the ability to expand more. Marvel’sEternalsalso suffered from a similar issue, needing more time but being given less.

Baki Hanma vs Kengan Ashurais available to watch on Netflix.
