It is well known that Cameron has a total of four sequels in the works for theAvatarfranchise, which is an ambitious undertaking, and fans have now been waiting over ten years for the first successor to release.

What Development Stage isAvatar 2At?
The first sequel was scheduled to release in Winter 2021, butdue to pandemic delays, the release was inevitably pushed back to next year.
Cameron confirmed in September 2020, in an interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger, that the live-action filming in New Zealand was â100% completeâ, and the team now has a grueling post-production stint ahead of them - given the amount of CGI involved.
The director has highlighted that the in-depth writing process and scheduling conflicts were some of the reasons behind the sequelâs extensive delay over the past decade.
What isAvatar 2âsRelease Window?
Back in 2017, it was announced thatAvatar 2would release June 22, 2025, withAvatar 3following in 2021,Avatar 4in 2024 andAvatar 5in 2025. As it stands, none of those dates have been fulfilled, and fans are wondering if they will ever see the fifth sequel.
Many thought it was ridiculous for the director to announce so many sequels at once, and it certainly seems like the project is running away from him.

Cameron teased that the premise will revolve around themes of family and imprisonment. However, the events of each sequel will allow them to stand independently from each other.Â
The original cast, made up of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang, will be returning, and the latter is said to be the primary antagonist of all four sequels.
Kate Winslet will be joining the cast playing Ronal in all of the sequels, in addition toGame of Thronesstar Oona Chaplin andFear the Walking Dead’sCliff Curtis.
WithFrontiers of Pandoraarriving in 2022, it seems like the first sequel will release in tandem, but don’t hold your breath.
