Today’s freeAstro Botupdate has added some of the most highly-requested cameos the game has seen so far.
The game has seenan incredible amount of free supportfrom Team Asobi since its release last year, and if this is the last big update they release for it, at least it’ll be going out with a bang.

Today’s update adds five new Vicious Void Galaxy stages, bringing the game to over 90 levels, along with five new VIP Bot cameos.
We already knew one of them to be Atsu fromthe upcoming Ghost of Yotei, which, as a reminder, is also gettingits own dedicated State of Play today. However, she isn’t the only big name coming to Astro Bot today.

Finally, Final Fantasy
Each of the five new stages has its own newVIP Botto add to your hub area, most of which come from Square Enix games.
The stage Twin-Frog Trouble will get you Serge fromChrono Cross; in Suck It Up, you’ll findNieR: Automata’s2B; Handheld Havoc will get you Atsu; and, fromFinal Fantasy VII, the stage High Inflation will finally allow you to unlock Cloud Strife.

In addition, completing these four stages will unlock a final one called Megamix Mastery. Finishing it will not only unlock Sephiroth, but will also present players with a “thanks for playing” message, suggestingthat these new stages may be the final additions to Astro Bot.
Astro Bot Pushed PS5 Processing Power “To Its Limits” Claims Dev
According to one of the developers, Team Asobi was optimizing one of Astro Bot’s sections “until the very end.”
Cloud and Sephiroth in particular are obviously a very big deal, as the first and probably only characters from the historically PlayStation-centric Final Fantasy series to be added to this celebration ofthe consoles’ history and present, and the most highly requested additions to the game by a wide margin.

Astro Bot has been a runaway success for the PS5 with its surprise Game Awards win last year, among other wins, and it has clearly hit the point where it’s finally drawn the attention of Square Enix to entrust it with some of their biggest names.
Sony also seems keen to capitalize on its success, and it’s seemingly one of the gamesthey’re looking to adapt to the big screen.
