For the first time in the last 13 years,Call of Duty Black Ops Cold Warcouldn’t stand at top of the UK sales chart in its launch week, and it seems to be a great financial achievement for Ubisoft andValhalla.
Of course, the unstable situation of the physical market due to the COVID-19 pandemic has surely affected the financial performance of all the games launched since earlier this year, but it can’t be a good reason for justifyingBlack Ops Cold War’s lower sales compared toValhallaas the situation for both of them were the same. That said, we can’t ignore the fact thatCold Warlaunched three days later thanValhalla, which means it had three days less than the newAssassin’s Creedto add up to its launch week sale statistics.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, another new launch of the last week, managed to stand in the third position and sendFIFA 21down to fourth place. The originalSpider-Manwas surely a big hit for PS4, but the new standalone expansion has sold 56% lower than the original edition, despite the fact that it was launched on PS4 and PS5 at the same time. And again, you may’t ignore the negative impact of COVID-19 on the statistics.
Demon’s Souls Remake, another PS5 launch title, stood at sixth place, under Nintendo’sAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. Sony’s critically acclaimed PS5-exclusive managed to beatWatch Dogs Legion, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Minecraft Switch Edition, andSuper Mario 3D All-Starsin the physical sales of the last week.
