Video game fan creates beautiful wood carvings of popular games, including two eye-catching renditions of theLegend of ZeldaandElden Ringgame boxes.
Critics and fans alike celebrate games for pushing the boundaries of interactive art and visual styles. Of course, with games being a visual medium, it’s no surprise; however, they hold the unique ability to transport players into vibrant and interactable worlds. With art being such a center point for games, it’s only natural that game communities show their appreciation by creating their own incredible works.
Video game fans have long turned to art to pay tribute to their favorite games. In digital, traditional, or handcraft styles, artists keep these games alive by creating their own renditions of these stories. One such artist,woodworker Pigminted, keeps the spirit of their favorite games alive with beautiful carvings of game cartridges.
Artist Pigminted Shares TheirZeldaandElden RingWood Carvings
Pigminted is an Indiana, USA-based artist, working primarily with wood to carve and paint flat 3D pieces. Focusing on recreating game cartridges, Pigminted adds a cool new style to traditional game boxes. Though a majority of their work is centered on video games, they’ve also crafted a number ofwooden anime posters.
Most recently, Pigminted shared aLegend of Zelda: Wind Wakerpiece, which went viral on Twitter with nearly 50k likes. The wooden cartridge features a 3D rendering of Link on his boat, with the game’s logo popping out for extra texture. The soft shades of brown and blue give it a more subtle, yet sophisticated look than the original cartridge. Even cooler, the back is a stunning collection of all ofWind Waker’s major characters.

In order to craft a piece like this, Pigminted has to create layers that stack atop each other. Smaller pieces, like Link or the game logo, are placed atop the front panel to establish the 3D effect. They then sandwich other panels of wood between the detailed covers to fill out the body of the cartridge.
Along with their many other art pieces, Pigminted recently crafted anElden Ringpiece that can only be described as stunning. This cover has a soft brushing of gold to highlight the more intricate detailing on the cover. Though, the coolest part of this cartridge is its back - a full-page image of Ranni that can we can only describe as stunning.
